Anyone ever built one from frame up? If so any pointers before I dive Into picking up a frame from a buddy that said I could have it.

I have fixed a few of them. What is it you have questions about specifically? There really isn't a whole lot of VW parts except in the motor and rear drive train generally. You can spend as much or as little as you want. Generally it snowballs and you spend a lot.Comment

I was looking at a frame and what all it entail to put one together I know motor/transaxle, front end then pedals ,wiring ! But I just found out you can no longer make them street legal, that means no driving it on the beach from malaquite beach to the land cut. Having second thoughts now.

When you try and get it registered it has to be inspected from what I’ve read and they’re refusing if it’s an off road vehicle, even dirt bikes that have been converted to have all the equipment to be street legal won’t pass if designated as off-road.
