          I know nothing about western pleasure so can't speak on that. As far as barrels she doesn't have to start going fast. She can start by walking the pattern and work her way up. No barrel racer starts by haul tail into and around the barrels. Its a gradual process

            She's been trying to work up to it but as the horse goes onto canter she gets timid. She'll continue the process.

                      Yep, get her in some lessons if she needs them & just start slow. Getting faster will come as she get's more comfortable.
