    Deer breeding without antlers?

I've always been told deer can only breed while they have hard Antlers.

This picture taken 2.5 weeks ago on my place suggest otherwise. Notice the erect buck mounting the doe. Is he firing blanks?

    What are the experts thoughts?

Not an expert but I slept at a Holiday Inn once. A buck's testosterone levels are higher during the time of the year that bucks have antlers. But they should still be able to breed at other times. I'm over 50 so I should know.

She isnt receptive so there will be nothing conceived. There is a slight bump in testosterone this time of year spurring scrape activity.

Biologist at Kerr told us years ago that a buck is always capable but the does determine when.

No wonder some people have alot of kids. They don't understand how the making a kid/breeding process works in humans, let alone animals

Are you certain that’s a doe?

It’s not the antler the buck needs hard in order to breed.

Maybe his intent was to get his rocks off, not breed.
