Growing up in West Texas, horny toads were everywhere! My sisters and I spent endless hours playing with them, but it’s been years since I’ve seen one.

Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Best little horny toads around. Growing up they were everywhere. Especially in the garden. used to pick them up, rub their tummy and asleep they would go...Put them down and a few minutes they would move. Best pill bug eater. Wish they would be around.

grew up running around the panhandle barefoot catching snakes and horned toads. Used to load the red wagon with many horned toads, they were everywhere. Where did they all go .....

Texas tortoise are a threatened species. The one in the OP’s pic is a male.

                      Two great finds!

Nice! I’ve got a a labradoodle that roams next door to my elderly neighbors. They called earlier and said he brought them a turtle like some kind of prize lol.

I see a bunch of horned toads. One road in particular I know of you can drive down and see at least one every time.

Found one that was dehydrated last year. Put it in a little bit of water and it was fine an hour later. Soaked it up through its skin and probably drank some and was good to go. I let it go close to an ant den so it could get some food.

Been in Tx since "69 and I've seen 2 horny toads----one in a feed store in Pleasanton and one on our lease near Fowlerton---and saw one tortoise on the lease as well.

Don't recall ever seeing a horny toad in the wild before, but came across 2 on our lease this weekend. Lease manager said he had seen one the day before. Sounds like they may be coming back. Sure hope so.
