Heading to CO on the 20th to hunt 8 days. Maybe we can get lucky and find an elk still in the unit, hiding in a cave somewhere.

Paper. We start hunting Saturday so hopefully miss all the heat. Though it does look like it’ll get back in low 80s sun and mon.

We are north of Angel Fire and West of Eagles Nest so not in the area affected by the fire.

I have been in SW Colorado since opening day. I have had three bulls in bow range but only one of them legal. A nice 5x5 which I couldn’t see my pins to shoot thanks to the No lighted pin rule here. Somebody moved about 500 cows into my area and the elk have vanished. I left this morning to look for new country. Everywhere I looked is covered in RV’s and hunters. I did manage to call in Ryan from Wisconsin. A nice young man that really liked my calling abilitiesNot sure what to do next. Really enjoying a motel room after 6 nights in a tent.

Looks like one of the first LDPs. Shot this Saturday in CO and haven’t seen an elk since. Trying to fill my buddy’s tag still, but been tough
. They are all either up high or on private it seems.

Congrats zins !!

The weather change is looking nice now folks. Much cooler with a snow chance going into this weekend, snow more up North. A little warmer Sunday and Monday then another cool front with good moisture next week mid week.
Montana should be feeling it soon I think, I hope for you Bill.
Laramie Peak may get a dusting WyoBull.
First frost for us perhaps.

Might want to have that rain gear for next week and be ready for cool, wet weather up higher.

Congrats on the bull! Hopefully they start talking more and y’all fill both tags.

7 days until I’m headed north with an either-sex tag in my pocket, partner has a rifle bear tag.

Finally got my first elk on public land in Colorado this year, second year at it. Packed in a few miles and heard this guy in a draw bugling. We had a bugling fest at each other for almost an hour before curiosity got him. Right into my setup at 40 yards, went about 100 yards and piled up. My wife was with me, we are beat but headed home.

Tagged out on bulls opening week on CO public land. Headed back to Texas today, lost weight but hauling a heavier load.

This hunt was an absolute grind and the most physically demanding thing I’ve ever done.

The best part about it was being fully apart of and witnessing each of our encounters, shots, kills, crashes, recovery and pack outs together. I watch zins bull expire from 30yds away, and we watched mine tip over 200yds away together. I have GoPro footage of all of zins bull. I turned my GoPro on when my bull closed 60yds, I hope I got the shot at 37yds, the fall over and our excitement immediately afterwards, but when I took my go pro off my head it was not on. I believe the battery died shortly after turning it on.

The plans we made were spot on and executed exactly as prescribed. 3:30am wake ups, followed by 45min drive, hike started at 4:45am to climb over 1,000’ in elevation for over a mile in distance just to start our hunt well before day break.

We made one hell of a team together and some incredible memories I’ll never forget. Met some fellow hunters back on the mountain again this year and enjoyed reuniting.

Congrats to everyone, looks like TBH is taking care of business.

I leave next Friday for a 6 day pack in hunt in 16B and cant wait. Any reports from up there, I saw the pic of the 405 they killed last week. So excited, in shape and bow dialed in. Good luck to everyone that still has a tag.

Anybody got any advice on good waterproof gaiters? I looked at Kuiu Yukons and their Kutana’s. Are there any that are waterproof and quiet.
What is everyone using?

Congrats on a great hunt! Not many are two for two coming back!

I have Kuiu’s. Keep out wet and snow. Not really sure how quiet they are.

Also look at the Kennetrek gaiters. I saw them in their retail showroom in Bozeman, looked well made.

Congrats on the success guys. I just got home tonight. I was gonna stay but too many muzzleloader guys showed up for my liking. This was my first year hunting Colorado public and I really enjoyed the challenges. Had two very near shot opportunities on legal bulls. I didn’t want to take a risky shot hunting solo. Learned a lot and can’t think of a more beautiful place. Wish I could get Aspen to grow at my house in Boerne. Might just have to do it again next year waiting on more points in Wyoming and Montana.
