    Casing Split

Checking rifles for a hunt this weekend a one of the 5 rounds fired from my 243 split the brass. No damage to the rifle but definitely raised an eyebrow. There is a dent in the brass but I’m not sure if it was a cause or an effect. Thoughts? Seen this before?

If it has been reloaded numerous times they become weak and split. Pretty common. If not reloaded, probably the dent caused it.

As Null90 asked we need more information. Normally cases split at the neck when reloaded multiple times they become thin from the friction of the dies pushing / pulling the brass. Is the rifle a bolt action or semi auto?

I would say it could have been a defective case from the factory.
