Good luck! You have got it figured out! Multiple stand locations so you don't burn any of them out.
By the way, what app is that you're using with you stand locations, wind, etc? |

Saw two deer this morning. The doe in the picture and a buck moving thru the timber about 300 yards away.

I didn't expect much out this evening's hunt. The morning sit was real slow. I saw one doe and a buck way across one of the fields near my set.
I worked around the house all day. I planted some winter rye behind the house basically for erosion control and I thought about not going out because it was to late to get to most of my stands. At about 4:45 I decided to go back to the Terrace stand which is only about 300 yards from our house. I grabbed my safety harness and a camo jacket. I got in the stand a little after 5:00. I had not seen anything until 6:30 when quite possibly the biggest buck I have seen from a stand came out of tall grass to my west and walked toward me on the terrace between the two fields. I got my bow off the hanger and got ready. At one point the buck was at 22-23 yards. Between my stand position and limbs in the way I could not get a shot. When the buck got past me. I took a couple of pictures. You may be able to see the buck in the first picture on the left side of the terrace and in the second picture past the small Y shaped tree. In the third picture his head is down. I walked an extra 1/2 mile to get out to try not to spook him. He had headed right towards our house and in my path out. I am going to to go thru my pictures but I don't think I have a picture of this buck. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk |

I did not hunt this morning. I got some chores to do today. I will be back in a stand this evening.
I pulled this card yesterday. Just got a chance to look at it. This is another new buck. The bucks are are starting to move here. I have seen two new bucks in two days. This is an Iowa Timber Hog. Look at the neck on this guy. I am still freaking out about the buck I saw last night. I was so close to getting a shot. As soon as he came out he was wind checking. The wind was perfect for me and he never knew I was there. I walked about an extra 1/2 mile to get out. He is a mature buck and he acted like one. I hope I did not spook him getting out. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk |

![]() I was in a Game Tamer facing the creek and the alfalfa field. He came from my back side. When I turned around to my right my right arm was right against the tree. To have a shot I was going to have to lean even more into the tree to get to a window thru the trees. I was not comfortable trying a shot. I am going in there mid day Saturday and rotate the stand around facing the terrace. The deer like to walk alone the terrace between the oat/grass field and the standing corn. I had the stand facing the other direction because I could shoot easily to two scrapes in that direction. Timm (2050z) is going to try to enhance the pictures I got of the buck with his computer. There was just not enough light left for a good picture. Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk |

I have not hunted a lot since my last post. I had to go to the eye doctor last Friday. He changed up my contacts and my vision has been a little off as my eyes adjust. I have been scouting some and I have a new stand set. I also have done some more trimming on shooting lanes after that huge buck got by me last Wednesday.
![]() I have only seen 11 deer while in my stand but 5 have been bucks. Most of the local guys I know here don't start hunting until Halloween. If they are taking vacation they take the first two weeks of November. I have 3 shooters on camera and the big one last Wednesday was a new buck I have not seen on camera. There will probably be some cruiser bucks trolling this river corridor soon. There is still a lot of standing corn which give the deer food and cover in one spot. When more corn is cut and the rut heats up the action should pick up. You got to be in the right spot at the right time and have a little luck to get a shot. Tapatalk would not let me post pictures unless I got a VIP membership. I got one so let's see if this works. This evening I am sitting in a creek bottom. There is about 60 yards of Creek bottom between a steep ridge and the river. This is close to where I grunted in a decent 2.5 year old 8 the other evening. I also posted some pictures from my walk in to this area. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk |

The action here in Iowa has been kinda slow until yesterday. The deer here seem to always start to turn on around Halloween. The bucks are starting to cruise in daylight hours. I saw 6 deer yesterday evening. I grunted in a decent 8 point, but not a shooter. I saw a shooter this morning at about 300 yards. I had a young 8 this morning walk under my tree stand. I pulled a card that I had set on a fresh scrape a few days ago, and it had a new buck that I have not seen before. I set a stand near this scrape yesterday. Looking forward to hunting it and this buck

First sit in a new stand set this evening.
Cut corn to my left, cut corn slightly around the corner to my right, pasture up the hill in front, soy bean field to my back. A feeder creek intersects the river about 30 yards to my right. There are two scrapes under the overhanging Maple at about 23 yards. There is another scrape on the right edge of the corn field at about 40 yards. Got a picture of the buck I am after at this spot Halloween night in the snow. First sits are always exciting. Let's see what happens. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk |

Well. I did a couple of rattling sequences and I couldn't believe nothing came in. Right at dark as I put my quiver back on my bow and snapped my arrow into the quiver I heard something behind me. A chunky young 8 was coming up out of the "crick". He walked right under me and went straight to the scrape under the Maple tree. He did not like the dominant buck pee that I had put in the scrape. I took several pictures before he wandered off into the cornfield. I think eventually this spot will produce a big buck.

Good deal !!! I will try to keep you all updated.
I appreciate you following along. Where a hunt like Hagerman is a 3 day sprint. This is a season long marathon. Today was my 20th sit since October 19th. Deer hunting is basically what I am going to be doing for the next two months. Archery season is Oct 1 – Dec 6, 2019 archery then opens back up Dec. 23 - Jan. 10, 2020 Early Muzzleloader, Oct 12 - 20 Late Muzzleloader, Dec 23 - Jan 10, 2020 First Shotgun, Dec 7 - 11 Second Shotgun, Dec 14 - 22 January Antlerless, Jan 11 - 26, 2020 My time in the stand has revealed we are down on deer numbers from 2017 when I drew a tag as a non-resident and last year when I did not hunt (had not established residency), but observed all fall and winter. Our area was hit hard by EHD this past August and September. We lost at least two good bucks and a lot of does. With that being said we have some outstanding bucks that are still here and the rut is just now kicking in. I saw a shooter yesterday morning at about 300 yards and I saw the same shooter this morning also at about 300 yards. I am sitting a stand in the morning that is pretty much between my two sightings. So far I have had 5 bucks within 23 yards. One shooter that I could not get a shot at and four young 8s that basically came right under my tree and never knew I was there. Here is some info on the deadly EHD outbreak in our area that killed a lot of deer this summer. https://www.radioiowa.com/2019/08/30...has-increased/ Last edited by Arrowsmith; 11-03-2019 at 09:18 PM. |

![]() At 3 of my four primary stands you can see the house. With that being said we have some rough*** terrain, steep elevation changes and tail busting creek banks that will make you work to get there. You will see. ![]() I gotta get to bed. I am after a tall and wide main frame 10 that will probably go about 275lbs on the hoof. I have seen him twice in the last two mornings. I watched him from about 300 yards thru my binos stand perfectly still for 12 minutes this morning. Old mature bucks that are 99% nocturnal are cool creatures to watch.....and put an arrow thru if I get a chance. ![]() |

Back in the Pinch Point stand this evening. The buck I am looking for has not shown, but the little guys are acting "rutty". Pretty little 8 came in all bristled up.
