    I ain’t nothin but a simple man
They call me a redneck and I recon that I am
But there’s things goin on that make me mad down to the core
I have to work like a dog to make ends meet
There’s crooked politicians and crime in the street
And I’m madder than hell and I ain’t gonna take it no more

We tell our kids “just say no”
And some panty -waist judge let’s a drug dealer go
Slaps him on the wrist and turns him back out on the town
But if I had my way with people sellin dope
I’d take a big tall tree and a short piece of rope
I’d hang up high and let em swing till the sun goes down

Well you know what’s wrong with the world today
People done gone and put their Bible away
They’re living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land
Well the Good Book says it so I know it’s the truth
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
You better watch where you go and ember where you’ve been
That’s the way I see it I’m a simple man

Now I’m the kind of man that wouldn’t harm a mouse
But if I catch somebody breaking in my house
I got a 12 -guage shotgun waitin on the other side
So don’t pushin me against my will
I don’t want to fight you but I darn sure will
If you don’t want trouble then you’d better just pass me by

As far as I’m concerned they’re ain’t no excuse
For the rapin and the killin and child abuse
But I’ve got a way to put an end to all that fast
You just take them rascals out in the swamp
Put em on they’re knees and tie em to a stump
Let the rattlers and the bugs and the alligators do the rest

Well you know what’s wrong with the world today
People done gone and put they’re Bible away
They’re living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land
Well the Good Book says it so I know it’s the truth
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
You better watch where you go and ember where you’ve been
That’s the way I see it I’m a simple man

Watch where you go and remember where you’ve been
That’s the way I see it I’m a simple man

So much truth to this song it should be our National Anthem. Close thread
I once got pulled over for doing "an estimated" 55 in a 15 while jamming this one. Told the cop the CDB had me too hyped.

You should’ve got off with a “Salute”.

This one puts dust in my eyes. Cody Jinks:

          William, where you been?
I’ve been waiting on you since only God knows when
          William, come on in
There’s so much to do, so glad to see you again

I haven’t been worried so much as I’ve been anxious
I haven’t been sad, for the reason in the rhyme
          I haven’t been cryin’, that’s something that don’t happen
I believed you’d make it here in your sweet time

William, I’ve so much to say
I started us a garden when I got here that June day
          William, c’mon this way
Meet our little boy that died on his birthday

We haven’t been worried so much as we’ve been anxious
We haven’t been sad, for the reason in the rhyme
We haven’t been cryin’, that’s something that don’t happen
I told em’ you’d be up here some sweet time

          Wanda, quit pickin’ at me
I’ve been running late since 1953
          Wanda, slow down just be
Hold my hand while I rock this boy to sleep

I haven’t been worried so much as I’ve been anxious
I’ve been sad but there’s redrawn in the rhyme
I’ve done a lot of crying, that’s something just happens
I hoped I’d make it up here some sweet time

                  I know your life
                  On earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain
Go rest high on that mountain
Son your work on earth is done
                  Go to heaven a-shoutin'

This lyric came to me in the middle of the night, thinking about this thread:

From Crosby, Stills & Nash - ‘Carry me’

…and then there was my mother
She was lying on white sheets
And she was waiting to die
She said if you’d just reach underneath this bed and untie these wings
                        I could surely fly

She’s still smiling but she’s tired
She’d like to hear that last bell ring
You know if she still could, she would,
STAND UP, and she would siiing! Carry me

Carry me, carry me above this world

                        Haunting ….

It's nights like these, the sad songs don't help
It's nights like these, your heart's with someone else
It's nights like these, I feel like giving up
It's nights like these, I don't seem to count for much

And now I've only got this one wish
That I was good enough to make you forget
The only boy whoever broke your heart
'Cause nights like these tear me apart

I got some cowboy boots, jeans and Hawaiian shirt
I got some mirrored sunglasses, got a mobile phone
I guess I look like some Port Aransas dope dealer who's out on bail just trying to get home
But I ain't in jail and I got me a guitar
Got a little band here that's hotter than a rocket
                            Sometimes we're sloppy
We're always loud, tonight we're just ornery and locked in the pocket
So screw you, we're from Texas!

                                Sometimes I'm out a-prowlin' and a-carryin' on
Too high to know when it's time to take it home
When I'm like that it's hard to leave the women alone
