    Winterizing a outboard boat

    What all needs to be done. Has not ran in 2 months

    Trim motor all the way down to drain water. Nothing else.

          Crack your lower unit grease fill plug and check for water.

            depends on your motor. A few makes have known draining issues and big freezes can result in cracked blocks or heads. My 350 Yamahas are notorious for this. I'd check your owners manual.

              De ja vu....was addressed in a thread last week i think. Lots of good info there but all I do is lower it all the way down. Been doing this on my merc for 25 years, no freezing lwr units no busted blocks...that said my brother has an old suzuki thats got cracked water jackets on the power head. Not sure how it happened though.

                    I've never winterized a motor and never had a problem. I've owned three boats over the last 35 years. They have all had Yamaha's. Not once have they not cranked and run like new. They've all been stored inside a garage however.
