Do your axis get skittish when you drive around? I like to go feed in the mornings with my ranger, but Iím not sure if that pushes them away or what. They seem to always be there when we arenít

Some axis are always going to run to another county, but others will just run a few yards. If you start shooting off the ranger you will never see them trust me we found that out the hard way.

Yea we shot one out of the truck a while back and after that we decided we arenít going to do that again! Iím guessing the only way to keep them around is to feed all the stands every hunt

If you have protein feeders you have to keep them full, but once they figure it out the will be a vacuum and you will keep them around.

We keep them full at all times. I feed corn with the ranger as well when we hunt and thatís what worries me when we drive in early and push them off

We normally just use hand corn. They can get spooked if you drive in with the ranger since we do not feed that way on a regular basis.

Maddie our 12 year old let one fly with the crossbow Sunday evening. Not the biggest buck but a good first buck. Unfortunately the shot was a tad bit low.

Man I wouldíve bet money that deer had a hole in his heart

We do try and feed with the ranger every time we are out there but I donít know if the axis just know we are there and get scarce or they spook! One day Iíll get a good one.

Finally got about a 2-3hr rain last night. I don’t know how much we got, but it was raining hard and a pretty good lightning show. Place should start to green up some.

Get you a road feeder and feed the roads around each stand EVERY time you drive through there. Corn the heck out of the road and within a few trips to the lease you will have them following your Ranger around!

Well made it out there for a three day weekend. WT are looking good and healthy! Some decent antler growth coming along. Axis were roaring good until and hour after sunrise and and in the afternoons they started about an hour before dark. Iím sure this moon didnít help with the axis but it was worth a shot. I did have a you g axis bull come in at around 530 in the morning, but he wasnít anything special. Dry as a bone and even hotter!!!

Buddies place just got hammered with high wind, hail and rain. Lost a goat shed. Two inches of rain so far and it just began raining lightly again

Made it out to the ranch this past week and boy was it hot!! Still very dry with no signs of any recent rains. WT are looking really good and healthy! Water stations are being emptied in about 2 weeks!! Saw lots of axis moving around mid day and even had a stud right at camp, but obviously o was caught off guard. I did manage to finally kill my first axis bull ever so thatís a plus. Unfortunately I had to use a boom stick. Going to try and make it back out there next week for a few days to get some work done now that I have a bit of meat in the freezer. The boys at the firehouse did enjoy some fresh axis burgers!!

Made it out again for another few days and itís dry dry dry!!!!! Lots of axis moving around and the WT are looking really good! Protein is getting hammered by every critter out there. Filled some water troughs to help the deer stay hydrated. I did get to shoot my biggest axis to date with a rifle which is a plus. Time to put the gun down and get the bow out for that 30inch plus axis!
