Choosing one all around fishing line?

We fish some but not near enough. We are headed to Arkansas next month where we could potentially catch trout up to 15lb strippers. I want to replace the line on all our reels with something that might work well. Any recommendations?

I'd personally try for one a lot bigger. 15 pounds is an awful small stripper. Not much to look at

But for fishing line that good and don't break the bank trilene. Big game or XL

Tilene big game! 12 lb test with a 20 lb fluro leader for stripers and you can put a 6lb leader on for trout

To be honest I won’t be trying specifically targeting strippers but by watching videos of bill shoals lake it’s a possibility. When on the lake I’m hoping for a few of those 3-5lb white bass.
And in the river I’m just hoping the wife and kids can catch some trout.
Had not thought about the leader ideas. I’ve been practicing my fly casting so it should have triggered something in my brain.

I have Trilene Big Game on every single reel i own. I tried all the other hoopla out there and ran back to big game.

I use this on our spinning reels, with a fluro leader. But only because I can't, for the life of me EVER spool mono on a spinning reel without it wanting to "jump off".

You can land bigger striper with lighter line. Just have your drag right, adjust it as needed, and plan on playing the fish a while. Of course, they might spool you out also.

If you don’t know how to tie certain knots to join a mono or flouro leader to it, maybe. Otherwise, it outshines mono in many ways, including cast ability. Sensitivity, line capacity/lb, abrasion resistance, lifespan and more.

Kind of hard to have a all around line that can effectively go from clear water river trout to lake Striper.

After spending the money to get to the fishing hole, saving a $1 on line is my least concern.

I change my line regularly based off of what I'm going for and what I'm throwing. Mono on some rods, fluorocarbon on some as well as a few with braid. The are all different tools.

Im moving to a 10 pound braid for most applications. Arkansas striper fishing I would go 20 pounds. They’ve pulled 67 pounders out of the lake my brother lives next too.

We used to throw nothing but big game but there is just way to much stretch on it for me. Try some flouro specially with as clear as Travis is right now. Much better on the cranks as well.

Now at the coast I'm throwing nothing but braid.

I’ve got a few rigged with fluro. But only for “single hook” stuff. Have never tried it for crankbaits, ect.

I recommend a sufix braid, 20 lb or less. If you want to get cute use a leader but in my experience even in clear water the trout don't require one.

X1,000,000. I switched a couple poles over to big game. Fished about 5 minutes with it and picked a pole back up with braid. Mono is trash. Put you on some 15# braid and don't look back. More sensitive, almost 0 stretch, and last forever. Mono will stretch like a bungee cord when you set the hook.

I don't always set the hook on a stump, but when I do I fish it for a few seconds. Fish with braid only for a few years then grab a pole with mono.
