I figured with Phillip getting his boat back on the water I better get a few before he gets them all. The old gold spoon was the trick.

We went on a 12 hour offshore trip out of Port A this past Saturday. Caught a limit of red snapper, several vermillian snapper, a barracuda, wahoo, a 5ft hammerhead shark. Had fantastic weather out.

I don't take a lot of pictures but figured I'd post one up to say it's starting to turn on nicely. I do enjoy the early summer pattern. I put ice in the cooler this time so yall don't give me flack.

Ya'll are stacking them up! I'll be getting Salty quite often over the next couple of weeks... hopefully this slow down work trend holds out the rest of the month.

Ocean perch were harmed today! Had our 4 man limit of reds in about an hour and tossed em back and had the boat on the trailer at noon! 50-60 reds this morning!! Itís not crappie but itís not bad!!

Paradise Plus delivers again! Try again tomorrow and then head back to the piney woods!!

We smoked the trout down south last weekend in the Pipeliners tournament. We were throwing back 20" trout by 7:45am. Couldn't find a slot red to save our asses, lots of rats.

Iíve really enjoyed chasing reds the past month on my new-to-me scooter. Itís nice fishing away from the crowds.

Itís getting fitted with a jack plate this week- looking forward to fishing really skinny with even more confidence.

Everyone should should experience one at some point. Iíve been obsessed with them since I was a kid and this one became my mid-life crisis boat. I like kayaks, had great success with a solo skiff, but this rig takes the cake. Itís small, economical, gets skinny and fishes great.

Had a good week in Rockport. Wind was bad early last week but it finally calmed down. Caught a lot of undersized black drum, redfish, trout and some mangrove snapper. Kinda figuring out the area. Good off shore trip also! Be back in a few weeks!

Probably caught 25 reds this morning between the 3 of us! Kept a few and tossed the rest back! Redfish on the half shell and ponchartrain coming up soon! Back after the slabs Monday! No ocean perch fishing till November!

Those little scooters are a lot of fun and very versatile in calm conditions. I built one in the 90s and fished it for about 12 years. Gigged a lot of flounder out of it as well

Default 2022 Salty H20 Thread.... Let's go! Part 1

We fished the last two days. Itís been a grind here in Matagorda. We turned in a decent stringer, think we finished 6 or 7, just out of the money. Couldnít find a big red. We did take first place flounder.

It's been a very tough year for us. The wind has just been relentless which keeps me from fishing where most of the trout are right now. I can't ever remember fishing this many strong SW wind days in a year. But what I will tell y'all is the days that we have had light south or SE wind the fish numbers are much improved over last summer. It looks like the trout are bouncing back really well. There are a whole lot of 10-16" trout in the bays right now and most of those fish are fish that were spawned post freeze which shows the recovery is well under way. I think by next August when the emergency order is lifted we will be in pretty good shape.

One positive about all the wind is that it is giving the trout some protection and relief. That is a big positive especially during croaker hero season. The number of dead trout at the cleaning table has been very low and that is a good thing right now. Every weekend that passes that the conditions are tough is just that many more trout still swimming and spawning in the bay and not freezer burning in someone's freezer.

That wind was brutal yesterday. Couldnt get to some spots i wanted to get to just for fear the anchor would cone undone and i would be up on rocks. Was able to scratch out 1 keeper flounder. I did go back into a lake and just have a hay day with puppy drum just to burn through all the live (now dead) shrimp i had.

My boat mostly sits on the water and have to cross Aransas Bay to go fish. Tomorrow I’m gonna wash and leave on trailer so I can trailer and fish. This bites as it’s a lot easier for me just to walk outside and run for a few hours and fish. I don’t see any relief this week either

Aside from that first weekend in June the crowds seem to have been pretty low. I think people may have blown their wad a bit last year also, maybe going back to "normal" whatever that is. I won't say anything about what the cleaning table looks like when I'm there.

Definitely was a grind Saturday, we boxed a couple male trout just over the 17Ē mark, 2 upper slot reds & 1 16Ē flounder between the 3 of us. They all had empty guts. DSL & paddletails were all they would hit. West Matty
