            They're not as far off as you might think. Toyota Chief Technology Officer Shigeki Terashi said the automaker will debut a vehicle equipped with a solid-state battery next year at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

                          Utility-scale storage capacity (megawatts) would indeed be a game-changer for renewables. And if done with common materials like sodium instead of rare-earth minerals, would also make it easier to separate energy from geopolitics. The U.S. should make this a priority. The oil-based economy of the middle east is toast.
