I’m going with whatever this guy says but I’ve never seen a rat snake with those colors. I’m guessing it’s regional??

As far as I can tell that seems to be the case. I'm sure we've all heard of a Black rat snake,Eastern rat snake or Texas Rat Snake. They're all the same snake basically. Slightly different color variations or even darker in color altogether. My guess is that one had recently shed its skin. It sure is a bright colored son of a gun.

Have to admit that crossed my mind but I think the head was “compromised”

Texas Rat Snake. I have them all over the place and catch them to freak out my wife. You really should let these co-exist. They will not harm you or your pets but will make quick work of small rodents and some other snakes.

You killed the best mouse trap there ever was. Too bad. Now the rats and mice are gonna take over and eat all the wiring from under the hood of your vehicles.
                              Serves you right
