I started out making selfbows. I made several that are still functioning. I still have the first one I ever made. I wasn’t very good at it and eventually went over to the dark side. It takes a true craftsman with a lot of patience to be successful at those style of bows.

hey Randy - something tells me that if you decided to,...you could build some of the top composite bows in the nation (I have two of those ‘somethings’ zipped up in Safari Tuff takedown cases right now...both have buckeye burl center flares!).. Put me on the the short list if you ever decide to.

His modesty is nice. His craftsmanship is outstanding.

Bisch is correct. Yes composite bows can have horn , sinew, bamboo etc. all natural materials. Selfbow limbs are one piece of wood no laminate period. Don’t get fair rules confused. Arvin

Well, if I stay awake long enough I learn something everyday. Turns out I'm a Boyer!

I recall as kid I whittled a tree limb down to smooth and used some white shoe laces from an old pair of high tops for a string. Selfbow!!!

I was a man ahead of his time. Who knew.

My Selfbow (purchased) is bamboo backed so it would fall into the composite class.
Will it be legal to shoot in the Selfbow Shoot out at Chester?

Is it really a self bow if you didn't build it yourself? [emoji848]

Well now that's confusing to me. How is it a selfbow?

Technically, they are not selfbows, but they are primitive bows. They should have named the class “Primitive”. Anyway, I clarified with the event organizer. They are allowing all primitive bows (selfbows and composite) to be shot in the selfbow class this year. If there is enough participation, they will separate them into separate classes next year.
