My wife has one and loves it. I agree with every one of the observations. Tundra is the way to go.

Are you talking about the old Couriers with the Mazda engine?

My 06 tacoma was perfect for around town or a couple of guys on a quick hunting trip. It was bulletproof, and since I didn't feel the need to drive 100 mph, it never bothered me that is was underpowered. Problem was, I'm a big ol boy and after a while it got cramped. I'm now in a Tundra and have never been happier. Had a 2020 3.5 taco for a rental. It wasn't half the truck that 06 was. High revving, outdated, and overpriced. Perfect for the guy who wants a truck but lives in a condo and goes camping once a year. Not much different than all the guys in their lifted up diesels hauling air and towing ghost trailers to assert their alpha status.

First part is my opinion. Second part is proven facts.

I bought a 1981 Toyota pickup for 4300.00 drove the snot out of it until just a couple months ago. Yes it was a rough ride, not a lot of room, but it did everything I needed it to. And off road it was great. I sold it for 3800.00 two months ago, It was rusting and stuff but still drove like a champ. Sold it to a guy that is restoring it. I listed it on Craig’s list and literally blew my phone up I had hundreds of calls on it. Total repairs ( other then normal maintain energy) were a fuel pump 30.00, and a front main seal that I replaced my self and I think it was 10.00 or something. That is all I had to do to that truck the whole time I owned it. Crazy reliable.

No way I would even consider another Nissan. They have a looooooong ways to go to better a Toyota. As far as reliability, we have had two and they were junk.

This is going to come as a surprise to some, but 1981 was 40 years ago…

I have seen a lot of folks express fandom on here.

Why do y'all like these things?

                          1. It rides like a logging truck. I have several 1986 F150 4x4's. The ride in this thing is much worse. I'd say comparable to an old wrecker. Much worse ride than a modern HD pickup. This is the most significant gripe I have with this truck. The atrocious ride quality must be felt to be believed. Wife thought we were going to give our baby whiplash over bumps in his car seat. It is BAD.

                          2. Gas mileage isn't very good. It getting 19 or 20 mpg.... yawn. I get close to that in my full size.

                          3. Lack of power is ATROCIOUS. This thing downshifts at least once, sometimes twice on overpasses to maintain 70 mph, at sea level, on a gentle overpass. It has a v6, but feels like a 4.

                          4. Cabin is TINY. Front seat has to be scooted significantly forward to allow room for the carseat. Backseat legroom is comparable to my 1998 Mustang, but with more headroom. No adult can sit in the backseat of a Tacoma unless dwarf.

                          5. Wind feel is noticeable. This thing gets knocked around by bow waves on an 18 wheeler like a motorhome. Passengers can feel gentle wind buffeting the truck at hwy speeds.

                          6. LOUD. I'd say the interior road noise on this truck is comparable to a 1988 Ford Escort. Maybe more.

                          Positives:

                          1. It handles like a car in both parking and tight higher speed corners. Not much body roll or oversteer like a larger pickup.

                          2. Theoretical because I haven't left concrete with it but it is short, narrow and seems light. I bet it would be great in most off-road situations.
I've owned several and you are so right.

The person who bought it put it back together and is still driving it. That’s all he’s ever driven and I have a 2017 Tundra and I love it. To each it’s own. Have a great day!
Totyota's are built to last. Know a guy who switched to a Tundra, after any Chevy, Ford, or Dodge he owned, started rattling and making all kinds of racket after about 50-70k miles. He loved the Tundra, because it didn't rattle a bit. With 175k on it. I know its a Tundra, and not a Taco. But its the longevity for me. People are mentioning fan base... but it is the same thing for Ford, Chevy, and Dodge owners. There are just some things that no one will ever agree on... lol

That is true. I personally have driven dodge (did not like it) Ford, was good, but drove a Tundra and loved it. Bought a new one in 2007 and traded it in 2017 for a new one. To each his own. My husbands Tacoma has done everything he needs it to do. We go camping, he pulls camper with Tundra and I pull the boat with Tacoma. No issues.

Wife drives a Tacoma and I drive a Tundra. As for features I hate both trucks I’ll be honest on that. Compared to the Dodge I drove (hemi only survived 175k after 1 rebuild at 150k.dropped lifter). Driven a few fords ( they are fast and ride well). Won’t touch a Chevy after they ruined the 5.3. I love these two trucks more than anything. My 20 tundra has had 0 issues in 75k and the wife’s taco after 9 years lost an AC hose. Took me 30min and $35 to replace and has hit a pole she said came out of nowhere. Dealer before this craziness was trying to over pay for it since it’s such a Wanted truck even with dent and age.

Everyone hates on the Toyota owners but once you get in and get past the fact they are a little behind in tech you find the grandpa mentality of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

1 engine choice (love it) I don’t need 100 options just make 1 good one and Toyota does that
