Default Davis Mountains

My wife and I recently did a trip to the Davis Mountains with S. Llano River SP as our halfway point both coming and going. There is much to do out there and much to see. We hiked, toured Ft. Davis, went to the McDonald Observatory and drove scenic routes. We were in the DMs for 5 nights and could have stayed longer. Kids could be kept busy out like this. Many, many more pics but just a sampling here.

Thanks! You need to do it. Native Texan approaching late 60s here and finally did it. Don't put it off.

Nice photos. Took the family out there late last year and the Davis Mountains quickly became a new favorite among Texas locations.

I appreciate y'all looking and commenting. We have been taking the RV out at least one a month and sometimes twice since buying it last year. I'm retired and she is flexible in her real estate career so we can do it. This trip was 9 days, our longest yet.

I used to hunt the ranch right below the observatory. Beautiful country and had some big mule deer and lots of whitetail. Lot's of aoudad as well. Great pics!

Great pics Bill! I get to go out there some - my son’s in-laws have a place between Ft Davis and Marfa. There is something about being in that country that is really compelling and good for the soul

What a place to hunt. Some folks said they had seen bighorn there as well. Thanks.

Thanks for looking. I'll be 68 in January and a native Texan, yet there are many places in our great state I have yet to see. Time is short.

Thanks, John. I'd love to have a reason to visit on a regular basis. It was a restful trip even with the activity.

I drove through West Texas to Las Cruces in August. I was amazed at the green up out there. I've never seen it like that.

Great pics! I love that area... you are in the mountains, but still in Texas and there is muley and elk.

I recognize that second picture. It is a pull over spot before you get to the Observatory. My boys and I liked glassing right there.

Yes it is. The valley floor and the cross give it away.
