I use freezer bad cooking for all of my backpacking trips. since I use an alcohol stove with no simmer this is the best way to cook. yes, it's a little more trash to pack out but the weight savings of less fuel, a single pot and less cleaning makes up for the difference.

The recepies are for 1 quart freezer bags and usually for one person. You can use vac bags but they don't sit-up as well and aren't re-seal able after use, which invites critters to your backpack. I also use a koozy to extend the cooking time without using extra fuel.
