Default New lure design

So I've been working on a slow sinking twitch bait with an original design. I've finally got it to act right in the water, slow sink, walk the dog below the surface and swim right on a steady retrieve. It's still a work in progress.

The draw back to wood is weight. This is after I got the weight placement correct. After paint and clear coat it's 1.45 ounces. That's a bit much to throw all day.

So to solve all these problems I've made an another to be used as a master to make a silicone mold. That will be used to cast it in resin, like a Mirrolure etc. I'm still a ways away from that but I'm getting there.

Awesome work Sir! Hope you stretch some lines with it soon. Can you please share what hardware you are using to attach the hooks and line eyelet when you get a chance?

I make the hardware out of small gauge stainless wire. I bend it in half and chuck it in a hand drill. Put end over a small drill bit and twist it up. It acts like a screw when you put it in. I put a little epoxy on it so it doesn't pull out. I hope that helps.

That one hasn't been to the coast yet, only a local pond to make adjustments. I designed it for winter time trout fishing. I'll follow up with the casting in resin process and some catching also.

Kevin, you and my son must watch the same YouTube. He makes his hardware the same way.

Hes carved 6 or 8 but he runs out of patience when it comes to paint.

It’s a pretty common way to make it. It’s better than buying screw eyes, the wire you can bend to “tune” the lure to run right. The paint just takes time, it’s building the base colors so it looks good in the end. Also I never show a failure lol. Thanks for all the kind words.

Here's the master in the clay box. It's half way imbedded in modeling clay. The holes will be alignment keys when I pour the other half. The blue sticks are vents and the wedge above the head will be half of the hole to pour the resin in. I'll fill it with silicone when I get back from South Texas. I'm going to a good friends 80th birthday this weekend.

Got the wire made up and mixed the resin. I added 10% micro bubbles to it also for buoyancy.

It came out pretty good. I'll get it cleaned up tomorrow and start figuring out the weight placement to get the sink rate I'm after. It will be a lure soon.

I'll work on making it look presentable today. They're kinda rough out of the mold. I'm still trying to figure out the ratio for the micro baloons (they make it more buoyant).
