Default Axis Buck & Hogs Down

I made a quick trip to the lease this past weekend. I was a killing machine. I always have a group of Axis that hit one of my feeders. I very seldom see a good buck, mostly does & scrub bucks. About 1-2 times a month, i will have a stud buck come through. Thanks to modern technology, I knew I had a nice buck come in 7 mornings in a row.

I got to the lease at 8pm Friday evening, grabbed my rifle, hop on ranger and made it to my other feeder where hogs have been coming in. I snuck in jumped in tripod about 100 yards away. A few minutes later a big boar walk directly under tripod and heads to feeder. He kept circling the pen. At dark I made a shot, heard him squeal and take off. I tracked blood drops for about 100 yards but decided I would look for him the next day.

I got to the bow blind at 5:30, get situated, open my windows, and I have about 15 hogs under feeder. I have no idea how i didnt run them off getting into blind. About 6:20 my timed protein feeder dropped and the hogs all dashed to get what had fallen out of spout. All of a sudden they all run off. I looked up and have this nice Axis coming in. He headed straight to the protein feeder. The hogs come back but the Axis buck would not turn his back on those hogs. This left him facing me , quartering to me. Everytime the hogs would get close. The buck would shake his antlers at them and rake the ground like a mad bull. I watched for about 10 minutes before he gave me a good broadside shot. I made the shot, the buck & hogs took off. I watch the buck dissappear into the brush. I grab my binoculars to find arrow. I see it, it has good blood on it, and I'm smiling ear to ear.

About that time, my corn feeder goes off, the hogs come rushing back in. I grab my ole 30-30 settle in on a ear and squeeze. She drops in her tracks. I normally shoot once but I rack another shot and hit one in the back dropping him, I rack another and took another shot but missed.

I wait about 30 minutes before i get down and look at my arrow. I had good blood. I followed the blood tracks for about 60 yards and found my Axis buck piled up. The Rage Hypodermic opened him up. Then the work begin. Trying to load him up by myself & hand winch still took everything I had. He was a fat ole boy

Sorry for the long recap, but in 15 years of hunting I have never had a morning like that

I went back later that afternoon. I tracked maybe another 75 yards and lost blood. I circle around for a little while but it was super hot. I never had more than small drops of blood through the entire track. I wasnt going to keep him, i just like working on my tracking skills

I did some rough measurements. Beam length was right at 30" and mass was a little over 6" but stayed that way almost all the way up. I roughly figured him about 135-145 inches. He needed more length and more width to be a real stud. I have been on the lease for 3 years, we can only take mature Axis buck with bow. I had a few come through on camera that was bigger, but this is the first time i had a shot at one.

All the scales were broken or not working, so i didnt get a accurate weight. If I had to make a good guess, I would say 250 plus
