ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV/Gray News) - Police in Missouri are investigating a violent crime spree in St. Charles that ended with an armed robber being shot and killed.

The St. Charles Police Department reports the crime spree started during the early morning hours on Saturday at a convenience store where a 26-year-old went into the business with a knife and told the clerk he was robbing her.

Police said the man held the knife to the clerk’s throat while she opened the register. He then pushed the clerk to the floor and stole money from the register. He dragged her toward the back of the store, asking the location of the safe.

According to authorities, the clerk did not have access to the safe, so the thief forced the worker to open a second register before stealing that cash and leaving the scene.

Officials said first responders took the clerk to a hospital for lacerations on her left wrist, right hand and neck.

Police said they were on their way to that scene when reports of another armed robbery came in at a Phillips 66 gas station. Officers said they found broken glass that looked like a burglary had occurred.

St. Charles police said a third burglary call then came in regarding an armed robbery at a QuikTrip convenience store where shots had been fired.

According to police, arriving officers found the 26-year-old suspect shot by a customer during that attempted robbery. First responders took the suspected thief to the hospital, where he later died.

Authorities said they interviewed the customer, a 26-year-old man, who told police he stopped at the gas station to use the restroom and buy something. However, he was walking back to his car from the store when he saw a black SUV drive quickly into the parking lot.

The customer said he saw a man carrying a backpack while running into the store and threatening the clerk with a knife, according to police.

Officials said the 26-year-old customer grabbed his gun and went back into the store. He then confronted the thief, who grabbed for his backpack.

According to authorities, the suspect reportedly told the customer, “I have something for you,” and came around the counter when he was shot and killed by the customer.

Investigators said the customer and the clerk were both uninjured in the incident and the suspect’s car came back as stolen in an armed robbery on Friday, with stolen items also found in the vehicle.

St. Charles police did not immediately release the suspect’s identity but urged anyone with further information on the incidents to contact them at 636-949-3300.

True. The rules are just self imposed by the Simon group and their said each facility has their own discrepancy to decide actions to take if someone breaks their rules.

Idgaf what a place has for rules, I'm gonna protect my family...and yours! This shooter went in thinking it would be easy picking because nobody else was allowed to have a gun there. Just like a school. Makes me sick.

I agree. At least this guy got educated pretty quickly. I bet for a split second the thought "hey, you're not supposed to have a gun in here" went through his head. Right before a bullet did.

Curious if anyone knows if this was going to be a mass shooting. Like if he came prepared to kill until out of ammo or being shot.

And I agree I sure hope people stand behind this guy and don't let the media/courts ruin him.

The legally armed bystander who ended up shooting the gunman was identified as as Elisjsha Dicken, 22, of Seymour, Indiana. Dicken was able to neutralize the gunman within two minutes after the gunman had already fired 24 rounds from his rifle. Dicken fired 10 shots from his Glock handgun.

"His actions were nothing short of heroic, he engaged the gunman from quite a distance with a handgun -- was very proficient in that, very tactically sound and as he moved to close in on the suspect he was also motioning for people to exit behind him," Ison said. "Many more people would have died last night if not for a responsible armed citizen that took action very quickly within the first two minutes of the shooting."

And Fox devoted 15 seconds to this story on the Fox Report, supposedly their big news show. This just shows how far behind the eight ball gun owners are. Even people who are not liberal in nature are against gun ownership if they are living in the big cities, especially on either coast. They really have no grasp of reality.

Surprised that CNN said the shooter used an "AR style rifle" and didn't go with the "assault rifle" mantra.

How did he just walk across the parking lot with 2 long rifles and no one saw anything.

This story hopefully screws up the liberal media spin. One young mentally I’ll kid with a troubled past VS one young man with a patriot spirit. Both used guns for 2 different reasons.

No, there contention is and will always be that if assault weapons (their word not mine) were banned, the good guy wouldn’t need a gun because the world would be filled with puppies and unicorns and no evil would occur….

Hopefully he wont need any lawyers, as of July 1 Indiana is a constitutional carry state, so the malls "no gun policy" isn't a law and can't be enforced as law unless he was asked to leave and didn't, which the only charge could be trespassing.

Thank God this guy was there, still unfortunate that it took a good guy with a gun to stop the POS, 3 people still died for no apparent reason.

Mental health needs to be aggressively addressed throughout our nation IMO - but I have no plan on how it could be executed successfully without some major over-reach by the anti-2A crowd

Well, that guy's mental illness was cured in about 10 seconds...
MOST "Mentally Ill" guys that want to shoot up places are sane enough to pick out a soft target... If targets were harder, they'd find some other way to be a bad guy and perhaps leave good folks alone... It'd be amazing how much less "mental illness" we had if the sick-o's knew there was a good chance they could get their arse shot off...
