    Wide or narrow tires

We are about to get a keep for the ranch. We have a lot of clay on our roads. You don’t have to worry about sinking but the mud balls up on your tires. So which is better for that type of muddy surface?

….. both are gonna spin…… you can’t get a keep stuck in clay with 4 bald donuts

Wide will look better, but narrow won’t throw mud everywhere

We got clay roads is its a rascal even with 4 wd. If you dont have it after a rain you aint going very far lol. Like said above, that clay will pack on your tires and you can't go fast enough to spin it off

Narrow. We had big wide tires and mud would clog up and had to keep a shovel in the jeep when it rained a lot and dig the mud out. Illegals stole the jeep, but we still got the shovel.

Narrow. And as aggressive as you can stand. Steering will be a sob with wide. Slide all over.

Wide looks much better but a narrow tire with non directional tread works best in mud/clay. A wide tire works better in sand and dirt/rock.

I’ve seen trucks with wide tires and big rims with little sidewall bite get stuck in 3” of mud that a golf cart would go thru.

^This. The only time wider tires are better in mud is when you can't dig down to terra firm or if you do the axles/frame are dragging. The bigger the voids in the tread, the easier it will throw the mud out and self clean. Downside is traction is worse on wet pavement and low tire life.

Narrow and the most aggressive tread you can get depends what year Jeep you get but one without a locker won’t get you far but a little further than wide that’s for sure

Yep, narrow and aggressive for that situation

Always heard narrow in mud and wide in sand..

Agree on aggressive with clay or anything that will stick in or clog up the tread.

In the Army, all our Jeep’s had narrow tires with tractor like tread. You couldn’t get them things stuck if you tried. I drove one for a year as an FO and that thing would go anywhere.
