I'll go get my cards on Sat. as I fill the protein feeders again. Those boys are eating a lot of feed right now. Filling them up about every two weeks.

Yep. Mine are going through protein and sweet feed faster than they ever have and I have more bucks on it now than in years past at this point.

Yep, they are absolutely hammering the protein right now.

I had problems getting them to take protein before I put pens in. I think the constant presence of hogs is what kept them shy of the feeders.

I eased back in with small tree mounted feeders with protein to get them a taste for it before transitioning to full blown protein feeders.

They are definitely hammering the protein. I have 1 of the Texas Hunter 300 pounders out. I filled it July 1st, was back in the area on the 15th, it was empty. So I had enough to fill it up halfway, went back yesterday it was empty, so I filled it again.

Nothing else to eat right now, it's all burnt up.

Well, might as well join this party! Looking forward to this season, 2nd season in the saddle. We had a few very good survivors....as far as I know they survived. Got 3 new lease members, anxious to see what they bring to the table. Members getting some decent pics of young bucks, no bruisers yet.

Moving some stands, adding one to a sanctuary I never hunt. Gonna prep it next weekend. Doing some things this season, I NEVER do, such as, a feeder, yes I put up a feeder, gravity feeder with Alfalfa. The other thing I NEVER do is hunt a sanctuary, that changes this season.

Good thread! Keep it going.
Nice SETx bucks.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post this is my first season on a lease. After putting out protein for a couple of weeks I was getting some pretty consistent buck pics. Well the hogs found the protein. No more buck pics, at least not where I’m feeding. Still picking a couple up away from the feed. Besides a pen, any suggestions ? Thanks

Following…. I have the exact same issue… hogs and a bear showed up and the deer have not been back.

I did switch protein brand in my last fill. Not intentional, but all they had in inventory had some berry scent/extract. Prior to that, hogs didn’t really go after the protein.

Feed pen for hogs is the only real solution.
For the bear just got hope he wonders off somewhere else.

You gotta stay on the hogs and shootem in the earhole. Feed pens and traps are better investments than feeding without.

Treeline 16% protein pellets at Tractor Supply. I've tried different ones (Purina, Record Rack, and Top Score) but this is the one the deer hanging around our properties seem to really like

Hopefully yall get some of this rain or some rain real soon.

We took the kids to Gator Country today in Beaumont and came home to some nice heavy stuff in New Waverly. Some of our neighboring ranches that recently brought their hay in looked like scorched earth. If you hadn’t been living in this drought you would have thought they had sprayed herbicide.

Put the pens up. Don’t do what I did and fight it for years.

First year I put them up, I had a ~130” 10pt that would come in every evening and lay down and sleep for a while inside the pen.

I soon realized and am still seeing that our deer see the pens as sanctuaries from the hogs.

We have a no mowing ruling right now and to be careful where you park if on vegetation.

We had ~1000 acres burn in the 2010-2011 drought and I carry a small fire extinguisher on my SXS now. It was required back then, but just makes sense.

Yeah I definitely got to start shooting some hogs next week. Was just throwing some protein on the ground with some corn and a camera. Two weeks of bucks now two weeks straight of just hogs

I keep a small fire extinguisher in my Can Am all the time after my Polaris burnt up. Things can catch fire too easy.

I drove a stretch of 20-25 miles on I-20 yesterday and bet we passed 10-15 places where small grass fires occurred on the side of the road.

Alright fellas need some advice. We went from community stands to dedicated spots. I hunt in the hardwoods and everybody else took the easy gun route. I only bow hunt so they were cool with my area.

I have had a pig feeder for 3 years in an area about 300 yards from my main spot. I want to put a big pen with no feeder and just hand feed. I want another hog spot but how far away should I be. So I will have 2 hog spots and one deer spot. Will the nasty hogs traveling through run my deer off.

This is east Texas liberty Hardin county area. As of now we can still access property. Our place is green. But we are a low lying area so we flood most years. This is the first year in 5 years I can drive right down the middle to my stand.

This is east Texas liberty Hardin county area. As of now we can still access property. Our place is green. But we are a low lying area so we flood most years. This is the first year in 5 years I can drive right down the middle to my stand.

I’d put them at least a couple hundred yards apart to (hopefully) dissuade the hogs from even bothering with your penned area.

They are still crushing the cotton seed as fast as we can keep it out. Questions on closest ton sacks of cotton seed to Huntsville, TX for next year really? We have been buying it at Tractor Supply or our local feed store
