My residency kicked in during October and within days I was going from plane to smaller plane to the south end of Kodiak Island for goats and deer! More to come

We hit the island with no time to spare. Changing flights pushed back our bush flight until 4pm. Somehow we got out on time!

We landed on the lake and did our best to find a camping spot. Say goodbye to the plane, and relax a bit.

The first 2 days were used to find a route to the goats, that we located with the spotter. We passed a few deer and ran off a few bears. Day three was going to be the day, we found a route that had limited cliffs.

Tons of them, nothing better than taking a leak in the middle of the night and seeing those beady eyes looking at you in the headlamp. They were not a problem though, just had to stay on your toes.

The 3 mile hike to the base of the mountain went quick. We had one encounter with a brownie but ran him off around 200 yards.

Once at the base of the mountain we could see the weather coming, we decided to roll the dice and go up. Itís about a 2.5 hour climb to the goats. A few pics in order on the way up.

Once we got to the top, the weather turn horrible. We couldnít see 30 yards, we decided to get to a central part of the mountain and hold tight. While climbing up we ranged the farther wall at 580 yards, so everything in the basin would be in easy rifle range. 15 minutes pass and we got lucky with a break in the weather. We could see approximately 30 goats, only one smaller billy the rest being nannyís. With two goat tags and one being for only a nanny I picked out a good dry one. 210 yards away standing on the edge of a cliff boom!

This is a real cliff hanger.

Boom what? Did you shoot? Did you fall for the cliff? What happened?

Where was I Booom lol. I hit the nanny head on, worked the bolt and hit her again, it was over. We organized gear, climbed up to her, took some pictures and got to work. The last picture makes it look gradual in grade, but itís steep.

The weather is getting worse, high wind snow, and limited visibility. There was a large cliff we paralleled on the way up. We noticed a small creek we noted to follow on the way out. It gave us a 100 buffer from the cliff.

Coming down the mountain was more falling then climbs, once out of the snow, we were greeted by mud. After 2 hours of thorns, brush, falling we made it to the valley floor. 3 hours after that we were hanging meat by camp.

The temperature was dropping and the rain turned to snow. We ate something and crawled into our tents. It was a long night crawling into my sleeping bag soaking wet. We decided to sleep in and get up at sunup approximately 900am.

Waking up I was almost 100% dry and other then some tent condensation I was good to go. (The perk to a good synthetic bag) temps got down in the upper 20s

We were greeted with some sun, with dark clouds in the distance. So we decided to hang our gear to dry out a bit.
