If you gut shot him and that's all you got it's going to take about 12 hours for him to die. If you got out of there super quiet and didn't alert him he will be stone dead in his first bed tomorrow morning. Don't chance it! He's dead, be patient and he will be there waiting for you. Even if you bumped him on accident he may get up and run to a new bed. This is a super easy track for a dog, gut shot deer are the easiest for a dog to find if you do it right. If you go too early and start chasing him he will go to the next county. Pick up this track tomorrow morning at first light.

Where you at? I got a good dog that'll stop a live deer.

If it were me, I would give him 4 hours before carefully and QUIETLY taking up the trail. There's a good chance that if you hit anything vital along with guts he will be dead in 60 yards. I would probably track that far depending on the blood, but back out sooner if it didn't look good. If you aren't concerned about saving the meat, waiting until morning may best.

Waiting wont hurt. A little more description would be nice, maybe a pic also

As mentioned above… for a giant deer, I’d get a dog, no doubt!!!!

Call Troupe Bishop in Brownwood. He will find it tonight.

He's big. I shot him broadside, just a hair quartering away, ground level. 2 steps from the pen there was blood and chewed corn. 10 more feet blood on broom weed. I backed out and left.
