If fishing was any good youíd be getting some reports. Lol. I donít mind the pics. The combination of the freeze and the crappy spring weather has this thread severely lacking fishing material.

This time of year I'm bass fishing. My small boats don't like this wind. The tides rising so it won't be long.

The fishing has been pretty good on good weather days, it's just that this time of year the wind kills us some of the time.

Saturday I had three buddies who went and drifted EMB and did real well with every boat scoring one or more 5#+ trout, some had multiple fish over 5. And they had solid numbers of keepers too. All were released. They were right where they ought to be in the spawning season on a full moon. They caught good numbers for any day, even pre freeze. I'm not saying it's as good as ever, not at all, but I am saying there are more trout in there than most people think. They aren't scattered everywhere and you have to really know where to look but there are fish there. I had a group that couldn't drift fish and we needed to anchor up and fish and we did ok, lots of undersized fish and a few keepers. We caught several trout while fishing for redfish up shallow. Other friends of mine fished scattered shell in WMB and scored good catches of mixed reds and drum with a few trout mixed in. Another buddy waded the grass beds in WMB and reported good numbers of reds and very limited numbers of trout but what trout they caught were very solid.

The wind came up Saturday afternoon and wrecked the bays and that was that. And that is how it goes in the spring. We had one little bite after lunch Sunday and caught a few trout but other than that it was a typical high pressure, high wind day. And we always have plenty of those in the spring.

The other good news is that we are seeing alot of grass come back on the shorelines and in some places we have not had grass in awhile. In both bays. It will sure help the wadefishing.

Also, we are seeing tons of small bait everywhere. I saw birds picking up worms all over the place in EMB and the ICW. Lots and lots of teeny tiny shad and glass minnows in both bays and in the river and ICW.

I think the biggest reason folks aren't catching many fish is they just aren't fishing. It's been a ghost town most days, which selfishly I like. Saturday was pretty busy but other than that it's been really quiet down here.

Amen on some grass coming back in EMB. Work has kept me from fishing and 25 mph winds when I do get a chance. Lol. My times coming.

I fished 2 days in POC last weekend for an annual trip I do with some old college buddies. There were 9 of us, 2 guys brought boats and we had 1 guide booked for booth days. We had a great time as usual. Our guides boat did really well both days. Our two other boats struggled bad on Friday with the challenging conditions, but did a little better on Saturday. This was me and the boys on the guided boat on Saturday. We ended up with limits of reds and black drum.

Serious question. Does throwing croakers really make it that easy? I have never fished with them, honestly don't think i have even fished live shrimp in ten years. Don't even have a livewell.

I also apparently am not good at fishing anymore. FWIW.

Does for some but I have never had them turn on a magic bite, heck I usually do better with artificial when I have had both available.

They way they are talked about you would think they are a dinner bell. But Ive completely bombed on croakers many times. Liked mentioned above if there are no trout and red in the area you just soaking a fish. At least with live shrimp I can keep the guest entertained with croakers, sheep, black drum etc...

Same for me. Ive stood by three other fellas throwing croakers all the while I was throwing trout killers and went almost fish for fish with them. Theres a trick to catching fish with croakers I dont know. Almost every time I use them I miss more then I hook. So I prefer artificial.

No its not. Do they work hell yea they do but its definitely not like some of the guys try to make them out to be. I've had days where I wore them out and days where you have to work for em. I've stood side by side with my dad and little brother where I wore them out and they barely caught a thing. Not something you can just sit there and every fish that swims by is going to jump on. I love fishing em and love throwing lures as well. They both have their time and place.

There is definitely a technique for croaker that you need to know. Itís like any other fishing, takes time to learn that but once you do itís quite effective. Itís not a dinner bell but you do catch fish.

I have been on trips and dumped stacks of fish onto the table caught on croaker where other guys had little success. I have also stood right next to a guy catching fish after fish while I zeroed with both of us fishing croaker.

In my experience, there are days where fish will absolutely smoke a croaker and there are days where you have to pay attention to the bite

Kind of like said above, not really, you will tend to catch bigger trout on them though since a troutís diet changes when they get older and a lot of the bigger trout prefer them. Iíve had quite a few trips where Iíve limited, then caught and released while wading next to a buddy who has struggled to catch a couple fish with them.

Kind of on the same scenario. There has been days i was throwing lures and caught 3-1 right next to friends that were using croaker.

One time it was even crazier, they were using croaker and slaying them and then they stopped biting croaker and i was catching on almost every cast with lures. So it definitely just depends on what the fish want at that specific time.
