Question Educate me on Toledo Bend Reservoir

Looking at buying a place on Toledo Bend, waterfront. East of Hemphill... don't know much about the lake. I've heard good things about the bass fishing. Yes I Bass fish

Anyone else have a place up there?

We have one on the south end of the lake by the dam. Lots of good fishing between where you're looking and us. Where exactly are you looking? Fin and Feather area? Lowes Creek area? My in laws had a place up there towards Lowes creek, and I've got buddies with places in the 6 mile area.

over half the original family farm is under water due to the ****ing of the lake. We still own a small piece near Fin & Feather. Although we don't get up there much anymore. Some great fishing but don't run that lake wide open until you know it. Those tree tops just under the water can do some real damage to your boat. Best fishing spot I know of is where the old farmhouse was supposed to be underwater. It is booger getting in there through the trees.

Is that the place called chicken coop that they catch crappie on?

Great Lake. Bass are off a little these days due to lack of grass. But still enough to keep ya interested, especially after you learn some spots. Different ideas on lake management concerning the grass. Great crappie lake and great big bluegill lake. Good depthfinder will be a benefit.

My FIL's old place is directly across that main cove closest to the point! lol There are/were some AWESOME brush tops right out in front of that dock! That is a bit north of my stomping grounds though. I spend almost all my time south of there.

As far as fishing goes... Find grass and you'll find fish. My end of the lake has been grassless the past couple years which makes the fishing pretty tough. Hydrilla is prime stuff on the south end! Also find your brush tops, and off shore structure. That's how the tourney guys win money. I'm a weekend warrior right now at this stage of life, so when I go I just beat the bank looking for grass and fish points. I choose to try and just catch a few and cross my fingers I run across a big one by luck. I don't have the hours to put in to directly target the big girls.

Appreciate the info! I'll probably be the guy that beats the bank in the beginning. Just try and feel my way around a bit first! I definitely need to learn where the stumps are....

I'll look funny out there with a Shoalwater but I ain't skeered.

It been a long while since I've fished TB. Grass was always key near structure (points, creek bends, humps etc.) unless the bushes had some water in them, than it was bushes bushes bushes. You will hook into a striper on occasion thinking you have a big bass and than realize it's a dang trash fish.

I have a place in Fairmount, south Hemphill. Great fishing and some good local hunting. Fairmount is experiencing a large amount of improvements. Lots of growth right now. Really a great area in my opinion.
Toledo also has more liberal fishing limits than most Texas waters.

Hey bra stay south. You can't burn the shorelines like you like. And the Wade fishing is good but it's too cold for you. Good luck great lake making a quiet comeback

Get you a map card for the lake. I believe there is one called ď Boat LanesĒ that keeps you out of the stumps until you learn it.

If you are gonna be in Hemphill, learn Hausen Bay, 944 Marina, Lowes Creek, Community Hole out of Hausen, 6Mile. You learn any one or all of these places and you will be on your way.

Of those listed, 6Mile is my fav, then there is Paradise Point! Yep, all good spots.

944 Marina is on FM rd 944 just S of Hemphill. 944 is in the back of Hausen Bay, just across the water is Fin and Feather. Lowes Creek is right out of Hemphill also.
6 Mile is about 10 miles S of Hemphill on Hwy 87. Anywhere in 6mile is good. 6 Mile is a creek that dumps into Toledo.

Yes there is a map with all these names and hot spots to fish. Sorry, been fishing TBend for awhile, just kinda rolls out.

Main thing is get on the water and fish. Whacky worm and a Lunker Lure you can catch fish all day.

The lake is loaded with fish of just about every freshwater species. It’s difficult at best to navigate and can be absolutely murderous on a north or south wind. If you’re not on a marked boat lane you better be idling and I highly suggest a boat lanes chip because the markers are bad to float off course when it really blows.

If there’s good grass in the lake fishing is phenomenal. If there isn’t it can be tough. Decent duck hunting can be found.
