Default My first elk hunt coming up.

Wish me luck guys! I have never hunted outside of Texas, but myself and 2 buddies are going to Colorado Oct 26-Nov1 for our first elk hunt. We are doing this on our own, no guides, on public land. We'll be in the Bayfield area, hunting GMU 751 mainly.

Never done anything like this before and we're all excited!

Hopefully i'll be back posting kill pics on Nov 2!

I asume you are prepared for bad weather. I have never hunted that late in Colorado I would think it could get real bad weather wise. I’ve worried about getting snowed in if we went that late.

Sounds fun. I have never hunted outside Texas either. Really want to do elk soon. Intimidated by all the unknown variables.

I hope we are! 14 day forecast shows lows in the 20s but warming up to near 60 each day. Have good cold weather and rain gear. We are renting a cabin about 20 min from our chosen hunting location so we will have a warm place to stay each night.

Subtract 3.5 degrees for each 1k ft. I will be out also but not in CO. I am solo also. Have fun.

Major weather changes coming in with very cold end of this weekend, and snow.
Remember check fire bans and abide by them.

Take your tire chains, or be ready for the chain law in Colorado.

A buddy and myself will be hunting in 751 for Muleys, heading up early Wednesday. Never hunted up there and will be in a tent at 10K feet! Hope everyone has a successful and safe trip!

Good luck to all you guys. If it is your first trip, I can almost bet it will not be your last. I'm leaving Friday morning for New Mexico.
