    Daily Bible Portion (Thursday)

    Daily Bible Portion – 5 of 7
    "AFTER THE DEATH"

    (Weekly Reading>>Leviticus 16:1-18:30, Ezekiel 22:1-16, Hebrews 9:6-28, Romans 3:19-28; 9:30-10:13, 1 Corinthians 5:1-13, 2 Corinthians 2:1-11; 14-17)

What Does the New Testament Have To Say About This?

1 Corinthians 10:7-23 "Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: 'The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry.' We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did – and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. [This happened at the Feast of Pentecost Exodus 32:6]. Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry. I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Messiah. And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Messiah? Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar? Do I mean then that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of God and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both God's table and the table of demons. 'Everything is permissible' – but not everything is beneficial. 'Everything is permissible – but not everything is constructive'"(1 Corinthians 11:26-30).

The life-blood of the animal was for atonement. What Paul was addressing in the above Scriptures is how abominable it is to drink both the blood of an animal and the cup of Christ, which speaks of His Atonement. This causes a mix of the two within us, contaminating and defiling the temple, our body.

1 Corinthians 11:30 "For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep."

Isaiah 66:17 "Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves, to go to the gardens after an idol in the midst, eating swine's flesh and the abomination and the mouse, shall be consumed together, says Yahweh."

Acts 15:20 At the Council of Jerusalem, James advised those repenting and returning to Yahweh to do so through obedience to the Mosaic Covenant, saying, "Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. For Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath."

The only authorized teaching the Jerusalem Council advised was that of Moses, starting with the four pillars: the avoidance of food polluted by idols, sexual immorality, meat of strangled animals, and blood. These specific instructions were very important as they all shared the same root. They all originated from food contaminated with blood! Is the council's advice taken into account today? In many assemblies the highest court of law stipulated and observed by the disciples in the New Testament is completely ignored. Why do people vehemently oppose the laws of the highest earthly and heavenly courts? The bottom line is: abstain from meat with blood still in it. Eat meat that has had the blood drained out.

    Clean Meats
    (Eliminating the Blood)

There are several ways of eliminating blood from meat, One is by properly slaughtering the animal by draining of the blood another is to place a portion of meat in a large container (ice chest) and cover completely with ice and/or cold salted water and soak one hour. Drain and repeat until the water comes out clear then cook according to your favorite recipe. Roasting with fire also removes blood from the meat.

    Unlawful Sexual Relations
    (Leviticus 18)

In 1 Peter 2:9, believers of Jesus are called a royal priesthood and a holy nation. If we desire a deeper walk with Christ we need to understand His principles so we can walk them out correctly. Keeping the blood in the diet can compromise the priesthood of Jesus. To see how important it is for the priesthood not to eat the blood we see the next chapter in Leviticus is dealing with unlawful sexual relations.

The nations of ancient times allowed many incestuous unions. The Roman Empire declared them lawful. Marriage between brother and sister was also common in Egypt, particularly in royal families. The Greeks approved of wedlock with a half-sister. Marriage with a mother, sister, or daughter was recommended by the Persians and was consecrated through mythological traditions (such as the pagan feast of Easter.)

Torah states that sexual relations with a close relative, either within or outside marriage, were prohibited. Sexual relations with a neighbor's wife or with the same sex or anything else outside a pure marriage relationship were outside God's commandments and considered an abomination in His sight. Torah also condemns impure fantasies and immodest glances as we see in Matthew 5:28.

Matthew 5:28 Jesus says, "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
