    "ON THE MOUNTAIN"

    (Leviticus 25:1 to 26:2 - Jeremiah 32:6-27 - 1 Corinthians 7:21-24)

This study of "On the Mountain" in Leviticus continues with the teaching of holy lifestyles of the tabernacle along with the progressive revelation on God's Feast Days and how to celebrate them.

    The Sabbatical Year

Leviticus 25:1-7 "And the Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying, 'Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When you come into the land which I give you, then the land shall keep a Sabbath to the Lord. Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and gather its fruit; but in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath to Yahweh. You shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard. What grows of its own accord of your harvest you shall not reap, nor gather the grapes of your untended vine, for it is a year of rest for the land. And the Sabbath produce of the land shall be food for you: for you, your male and female servants, your hired man, and the stranger who dwells with you, for your livestock and the beasts that are in your land - all its produce shall be for food.'"

The Sabbatical year follows the pattern given us in Creation when the Lord worked six days and rested the seventh.

Genesis 2:2-3 "And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made [filled/fattened]."

Rested is Strong's #H2323 (sha bat) meaning in Hebrew to cease, desist from labor and rest. It also speaks of restoration, as keeping the Sabbath restores us back into right order and relationship with our Creator. Enjoying intervals of Sabbath rest is the pattern the Lord gives us all through Scripture. Resting in His principles is to trust and abide in His Word, both in the assurance that God will provide for all our needs and with confidence in Christ's faithfulness in His Covenant to us. This is faith, the goal of our salvation.

Philippians 4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus/Yeshua Ha Mashiach."

We have been learning in the studies (Leviticus 12-15) that if we did not walk out trust in God's directives for our life we would run the risk of turning away from Him and enter a self-determining lifestyle through our own strengths. This self-government opens the door for the enemy to build his kingdom through us. That kingdom would include immorality, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft, jealousies, covetousness and fractions comprised with bitterness, anxiety, stress and fear. These actions are dishonoring and will lead to a life of pestilence, famine, poverty, disease and illness (Deuteronomy 28). In the book of Hebrews believers are instructed not to put our trust in the carnality of the flesh.

Hebrews 4:1-14 "Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them [the Israelites at Mount Sinai]; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: 'So I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter My rest', although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: 'And God rested on the seventh day from all His works'; and again in this place: 'They shall not enter My rest'. Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, 'Today,' after such a long time, as it has been said: 'Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.' For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession."

Believers are to conform their nature to God's nature and enter into His rest. This is to be our daily heart exercise before the Lord.

Philippians 4:4-9 "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus(The Word of God). Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you."

The seventh day, called the Sabbath, contains a deeper understanding for those who enter God's rest on the Sabbath. Not only is the seventh day a weekly Sabbath-rest for us but it also holds a prophetic picture of an eternal day when we eternally enter into His rest. The Sabbath holds the key of life for the Bride and the future life with her Bridegroom. The Sabbath is a symbol of the wedding ring and is the sign of a faithful Bride. Honoring the Sabbath enters her into a heavenly order that brings about life beyond earthly trappings. Believers are learning not to walk in an earthly carnal nature but are learning to submit to our new heavenly nature by choosing to walk in the redeemed sanctified lifestyle. This is the difference between salvation and eternity. In so doing, our souls are being transformed as our spirit has been transformed (Hebrews 4:1-13; 1 Peter 9-16).

Galatians 6:7-10 "Do not be deceived [fellow believers]: the Lord cannot be mocked. A man [believer] reaps what he sows. The one [believer] who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction[curses]; the one [believer] who sows to please the Spirit[The Word of God], from the Spirit will reap eternal life[blessings]. Let us [believers] not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we [believers who sow to please the Spirit] will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we [believers] have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."
