How do yall store and organize your ammo short and long term? If you keep it in ammo cans, do you keep it in the box or dump in the cans? Use ziplock bags? Let me know.

I have an old TV cabinet where I have all my shooting accessories and ammo. My family laughs and says it's like looking at the shelves at Academy.

Why would someone want so much ammo they have to worry about storing it?

This is what I do if I have enough of one caliber and the same brand/load. Others, that I just have a few boxes of, go on the shelves of my ammo “bookcase” that I recently had built. After years of willy-nilly “storage” most of mine is in one place.......finally.

Calibers I have in bulk are loose in ammo cans, everything else is stored in their boxes inside of ammo cans. Except for bird shot, I keep those in the case boxes they come in. The magpul Daka pouches make for great ammo storage to go to and from the range.

Some in ammo boxes, some in factory boxes in a tote, some in my vehicle in the factory box. I do that a lot if I shoot a particular gun a lot. It's pretty rough on the boxes after they've been in there a while though.

Ive been keeping mine in the boxes inside of 50 cal ammo cans labeled by caliber but have been wondering if it might be better to put them loose in ziplock bags with a dessicant pack in each bag and label the brand, weight, and date. Wasnt sure if I might create more room as I have more ammo than cans at the moment.

I would suggest anyone who reloads shotgun ammunition to store it in air tight containers particularly for extended times. The reloaded shell is not as moisture proof as the factory round therefore the lead will often times oxidize if not protected. The same goes for lead shot in bags, it needs to be stored in an air tight container as well. Any exposed lead tip bullet will oxidize if not protected as well. Just my $.02.

Unless it is a humid/wet climate, or they get flooded, it shouldnt be an issue. If the casing gets pitted or the bullet gets loose, thats when you discard. Discoloration isnt an issue.

We just bought a bunch of plastic ammo cans and my wife is going to put Vinland stickers with the caliber on each can that we fill it with.

You’ll gain more room if it’s loose packed but I find if I only have a handful of boxes of X caliber it’s nicer to leave it in the box than pack it loose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I keep them in original boxes. Put them in a plastic container with the silicon anti-humidity packets. Every time we receive a packet from amazon or whoever it usually has the silicon packets.

Any good solutions for high humidity locations such as a garage?
Taking up lots of room in the house. Pretty organized, but have much more room in the garage. |

I used to seal my shotgun handloads up in a food saver and it worked amazingly well. It leaves you with a flat little pack of ammo that's stiff as a board and you can stack the packs just about anywhere.

MTM Case guard makes an incredible amount ammo storgae boxes and systems that lock into each other, stack right and handle the weight effortlessly.
If I do not have ammo in the MTM boxes they are in the old .30 and .50cal ammo cans stacked in the corner of the gun room. MTM makes a tray to stack the old metal cans and they lock in good. https://smile.amazon.com/MTM-AC4C-Am...0732133&sr=8-1 |
