I probably didn't set his clock back.
Otherwise, he would have missed me.

I was exchanging calls with a gobbler one spring and heard him rustling leaves just behind me. I very, very slowly turned to come face to face with a box turtle. I just had to laugh!

Had one when I was a kid !
                Western box turtle
I think the ones with red eyes are male and females have brown eyes.
Haven’t seen one in at least 15-20 yrs
                Cool creatures.
Lot of things were around 40 yrs ago that ya never see anymore.
                Thanks for sharing.

When it would rain in the loco hills sands area of the oilfield. The box turtles would come out. The box turtles would be in just about every water hole in the roads. I took one to my daughter when she was really young. Our Lizzie has been a great box turtle.

There were always a few in my Grandma's garden when I was a kid. Every one I ever picked up would pee on me at least once. They loved to dine on her tomatoes and squash. Northern Fannin County along the Red River.
