Good deal. Possibly open this fall. It will be that kind of place...for people who like to "catch" and not just "fish".

There must have been another great largemouth spawn in the spring. We are trying to hammer these little 3-5 inch bass and take em out. My son caught 50 in 2 hours on crappie tubes in one spot. He said there were hundreds schooled up slurping on bluegill fry on the surface.

Yes....the quote was astromical. The shocking isn't too expensive ($2,500). The collection and removal part is.....another $3K +.

And you'd never get them all even if you shocked it. I have many places that a boat can't get to.

My cousin built his own shock boat out of a little aluminum jon boat. Couldn't get them all for sure, but it might be a way to get a bunch at one time.

Very cool stuff. Would love to see a pic of his rig and what he used.

I looked into building my own and even buying a unit to use but at this point its not worth it to me yet. Plus those dang things can kill you.

I may very well invest in one in the future but for now I'm gonna invest in a separate brood pond for the smallies.

Went out today to mow and check on dove plots.

I had no idea the Johnson Grass was this bad on this place. When I disced about month ago it released the mother lode. Gonna be a battle for a long time. Hoping if I plant elbon rye this fall it will help suppress the JG next spring.

Suprisingly we have decent moisture in the ground even with the 100 temps the last week.

Did alot of mowing. Dang JG is 5 feet tall.

The house looks the same. Builder has had major delays and we are not happy. Crew is supposed to come tomorrow and put up exterior metal and then hopefully it will go quickly.

The lake is about a 15 inches low. Not bad for mid July.

The browntop millet looks good although it's kind of thick. JG has invaded it but there are lots of BTM seed heads starting to pop.

The WGF sorghum is more like *** at this point. It needs Nitrogen but I'm gonna see how it goes without it.

Got a feeder going again with a camera. Hoping to see this dude again.

That's it for now. Will update pics when we have exterior metal. Thanks.

No kidding....that stuff is incredible but not in a good way....ha.

Yeah it would definitely be good for that. I need to cut it next time before they get a seed head.

One dove plot had a setback. Neighbors cattle got in my gate and ate the back plot pretty good. Got em out today. I don't think the WGF sorghum will make anything.

The front plot (browntop millet) looks really good even with the Johnson Grass invasion.

we sometimes run cattle in our sunflower fields (dove fields) to knock back the Johnson grass. Just a thought for the future. Dove really need bare dirt to land on

Got out yesterday to shred the browntop millet plots for doves.

Since shredding with the tractor leaves the seeds covered with the thatch... I tried an experiment I saw on YouTube. My son took my riding mower and went behind the tractor and blew the thatch off the seed.

Worked like a charm. You can see the before picture covered with thatch....doves can't get to seeds. The after picture is after the mower blew it to the side. Tons of seeds exposed.

Saw quite a few doves even though it was mid-day. The thermometer said 105 and I believe it....it was brutal on that tractor.

Zero progress on the barndo....builder is backed up and we are extremely frustrated.

I did have some rock delivered to build more driveway and parking area.

Also had 11 loads of topsoil delivered to ease the slope from the house to the lake. Didn't have time to spread it out but will get to it next week.

Cut down 5 big willows that blocked the view from the porched. Now it's opened up nicely. Left a couple in the lake for cover and drug the rest off with the tractor.

We have some progress on the barndo. Still don't have all the exterior metal but we do have electrical and plumbing done. Window guys worked a little today too.

Exterior is supposed to be done by Wednesday because they are spray foaming then.

I finished some dirt work today. I'm so good it took me 3 hours for a one hour job. Ha.

Knocked the steepness down and tiered it off for some steps.

Lake is about 2.5 feet low but this gives me a chance to extend the ramp.

Plowed some strips in the dove plot to hopefully attract more birds.

Went on the lake and sprayed some weeds on some of the islands and points.

Our resident beaver(s) is still hard at work felling willow trees. He knocked over this tree and has fresh cut limbs piled on his lodge.

Spent the weekend at the lake. The barn is now enclosed and we are pretty happy about it.

They are sheet rocking now and the cabinets will go in next week.

We got about 7 inches of rain this past week and it was a muddy mess everywhere with the construction crews. Dove hunting was slow...we are not in a flight path and the rain washed all my millet seed away. Plenty of shooting all around us though....tons of birds in the area. Next year....I'm planting big sunflowers.

Fished a little and culled some small LMB. Didn't catch a SMB this go round but we started late and the sun was already up high in the sky. Summer doldrums....need a front or two to turn the fishing on.

Meeting next week with a pond builder to look at clearing some trees for a 1-2 acre wetland with a water control device and also have him dig me a small brood pond for the SMB's. I can flood the wetland from the big lake.

We get alot of ducks on the big lake....but almost all divers. Wanting to get some puddle ducks in here.
