If you'd like to visit the range, check our shoot schedule page to see when the range will be open. Then take I-45 South to the FM 2004 exit. Take FM 2004 past the Gulf Greyhound track and go about 2 miles to Jack Brooks Park. Turn right into the park and follow the road to the first stop sign. Take a right at the stop sign and follow the signs until you come to the gate marked Salt Grass Archery Club. We look forward to seeing you there!

The physical address for Jack Brooks Park is:

      5700 FM 2004 and Hwy 6

      Hitchcock, TX 77536

The field range is being refurbished and in the meantime we have made some changes to the Spartan's Round:
3-D only until field range is complete
11 stakes for a total of 132 possible points
Shoot fees are $15.00/members and $20.00/non-members
              bullet Spartan's Fee is $10.00
Spartans start with one arrow. If you lose your arrow you are finished (unless...)
If you lose your first arrow you may purchase one additional arrow for $10.00 to get back in the game.
Pot will be split 50/50 between the winner and the club.

Once repairs to the field range are completed we will return to the original Spartan Round.

Salt Grass Archery Club has a brand new game, the Spartans’ Round! The Spartans’ Round will consist of a 15-target 3-D course and a 14-target Spot course (Field or Hunter). The decision between field and hunter will be made via coin toss the day before the shoot. You will learn which targets will be used on the day of the shoot.

Due to the fact that we are paying out cash prizes, and to avoid scoring mistakes, we are utilizing double scorecards. The Spartans’ Round will also utilize special Spartans Stakes. The stakes will be set to provide a challenging course, requiring shooters to kneel, lean, bend and stretch to make the shot.

Shoot fees for the Spartans’ Round are as follows:

              Salt Grass Members:

              Shoot Fee - $15.00

              Spartans’ Fee - $20.00 (Total 35.00)

              Non-Members:

              Shoot Fee - $20.00

              Spartans’ Fee - $20.00 (Total $40.00)

              Mulligans:

Spartans' Round - No mulligans allowed

The Spartans’ Fees are used for payouts. The pot will be split 50/50. In the beginning we will pay first place only. After the game is established and we start to see consistent turnouts, we will revisit the payout schedule and may add more places to the cash payouts.

The first round everyone shoots scratch (raw scores, no handicap). This round will set your handicap. After the first round, shooters will be handicapped based upon their first round scores. Your handicap will be 75% of the difference between your score and the top score. The purpose of using a handicap system is to encourage improvement by fostering competition. We believe that competition is necessary to improve your level of performance. We wanted to offer a competitive game that would provide a challenge to both the top shooters and to average shooters who are looking for ways to improve their skills.

The official Spartans’ Round Competition begins in September and runs through December. There will be one shoot per month, held on the 2nd weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of each month, for a total of 4 shoots. Payout will be on Sundays.

If you are a hard-core 3-D shooter, not to worry! You may choose to shoot the 15 3-D targets twice instead of shooting the Spartans’ Round with the 14 field targets.

It's next weekend - March 26/27. I must admit I was getting worried reading through, thinking that I had missed yet another shoot.
