Lease mate finally got it done on a nice mature 8 we've been letting grow for years. Most 8's we'd take at 4 or 5, but liked his frame so much we let him grow. 23" wide and upper 130's...

Wow, congrats on a beautiful buck, its truly looking like a great year in Shackeflord and Callahan. On another Tx hunting forum theres a 170"+ deer that was arrowed just SW of Baird. Cant wait to see what starts showing up as we get into Mid November...

Starting to look like theres a good chance that hunting wheat early november may not be an option at our places in Shackelford and Callahan. Not even sprigging up yet and zero rain in the 1-15 day forecast. Should make for some really solid feeder action once they stop hitting acorns on our neighbors property...

Unfortunate story, but his mechanical never deployed and basically killed him with a field tip right thru the heart. This is a guy that shoots his bow everyday and is an absolute expert shot. So didn't find the deer til next AM.

Put him in the mkt for a new broadhead and settled on Sevr's going fwd...

When you’re getting skunked, at least you can eat well!

Marinated pork chops and chicken, fried squash, jalapeño poppers, salad, and ice cold beer for dessert!

Question for you guys in this area. I am from Abilene and have always liked the looks of hilly country South and East of Baird between I 20 and North to Hwy 36. Do any of yall hunt that particular area? And are there good numbers of deer ? And what about the quality of deer? Thanks

A friend of mine hunted this are years ago. They only had 100 acres and always killed 140's. At that time I was super impressed with the quality and amount of deer. Having said that time gets away and that was 15 years ago.

Not a lot of deer but been a steady flow here. Both of us have had at least one deer out since before light.

Took a really nice buck off our place in Callahan- shoulda been a 10 but he busted off his brow tines. He was with another really old buck on our list.

Saw 6 bucks total yesterday, no chasing or rut activity observed.

headed to Albany the nov 22nd-dec 1 and thought we we're going to catch the peak of the rut perfectly. but with the very cold conditions and this rain to get them going, Im a little concerned they may start a bit earlier this year. I know its mostly light levels that trigger it, but im afraid its been perfect enough to get them going a week or so earlier than normal.
Let me know ya'll thoughts as well as any updates you may have on chasing activity...
