Good work trip to the ranch. Filled the feeders, put out cameras, and got all 15 blinds ready to hunt.

Itís as dry as Iíve ever seen a place down there, but the brush is still in decent shape. 3Ē on the year. Deer look in ok shape, with some big bucks seen. The Cattle look terrible.

The place was in pretty good shape in the spring, but a summer of no rain has been rough.

How does anything stay green with 3" of rain all year? Natural selection and adaptation at work.

You should be getting there pretty close to, if not during, the rut.

We shot all our bucks last year on New years Eve & New Years day.

We are headed down on the 15th as well. We have 1 good buck that has a steady pattern. If he keeps that pattern, it'll be dirt nap time for him via one of the lease members.

I hunted Laguna this past week. Did good there, just got to Mexico last night. Crossed at Columbia with my truck packed to the brim, all they wanted to see was 6 beers and sent me on. Fastest I've ever experienced. Met with my hunting partners, they've whacked the heck out of cull bucks all week!

Our first hunting weekend is the 22nd.
I had to pick between hunting the days around opening weekend or the 22nd, so went with the 22nd. Good luck to everyone going down next Friday for the opener.

Weather is a calling for .6'' of rain today/tonight. Hope it happens.

This will mark my 39th year since I started hunting Ole Mexico. Some things have changed since 1980 and others are still the same. I don't know how many years I have left hunting that remote country but I'm running hard for the goal line. You younger guys may not appreciate or realize that you are hunting the last truly wild whitetail deer hunting left in North America. Make the most of it while you can!
Best of luck to everyone this season!

Awesome message! Would love to hear some of your stories from the early days. As a semi-younger guy (I'm 37), you can bet that I appreciate all that Old Mexico has to offer. There is truly nothing like it and it's always on my mind. This will be my 6th year hunting there and I can only hope that I make it to 39 like you. Viva!

39 years is a long time. Iím curious to see how veterans are out there. This year marks my 20th year and couldnít imagine hunting anywhere else. Iíve hunted some ranches where it was hard to see a deer to remote ranches with no electricity. Wouldnít trade any of them for anything. Iíve learned to enjoy more of Mexico than just the deer. Hope I have another 20 in me.

I don’t remember the year I started hunting Mexico. I’m thinking around 30 yrs ago. I can tell you that the deer didn’t know what corn was. They would walk right over it and never stop. I have enjoyed every year. Good luck to all and remember that you are in Mexico.
