Here is how I have always thought of Texas
San Antonio and south is South Texas.
          Dallas is North Texas
          Lubbock/Amarillo is the Panhandle
          Freer/Hebbronville is deep South Texas
          McAllen is the Valley
          Alpine is Way West Texas
Abilene is West Texas although looking on the map it is really North Texas but people from Abilene call it West Texas.
          Houston is South East Texas
          Victoria/Corpus is Gulf Coast

here is a cool map I found on the TPWD website.

I see hunting shows on TV stating they are hunting in famous South Texas but they are outside of San Antonio or Uvalde. I don't consider that ST. People just love to use those 2 words for some reason.

I am from San Antonio and grew up south of Hwy 90. I've always claimed to be from south Texas.

Being from south Texas. I define it as South of Corpus. Anything North of that is nothing but Yankees.

I consider South Texas deer hunting to start at San Antonio taking Hwy 90 west to Del Rio and from San Antonio taking Hwy 181 south east to Aransas Pass, Tx. Everything south of these highways have your "South Texas" Big Bucks!!!
