Here is how I have always thought of Texas
San Antonio and south is South Texas.
Dallas is North Texas
Lubbock/Amarillo is the Panhandle
Freer/Hebbronville is deep South Texas
McAllen is the Valley
Alpine is Way West Texas
Abilene is West Texas although looking on the map it is really North Texas but people from Abilene call it West Texas.
Houston is South East Texas
Victoria/Corpus is Gulf Coast
here is a cool map I found on the TPWD website.

What is South Texas to people? I see hunting shows on TV stating they are hunting in famous South Texas but they are outside of San Antonio or Uvalde. I don't consider that ST. People just love to use those 2 words for some reason.
