Dilemma on when to plant food plot?

    In Ennis County.
Got one plot ready for seed and the other will be done on Saturday.
So I can plant this upcoming weekend or it won't be till Sept. 28th.
I will be planting mostly wheat and oats, with some Austrian winter peas.
Will the 28th be too late? I would like to do it then in order for temps to come down a bit but also probably have better rain chances.

      Heck no. WAIT!!!!!

I am planting middle of October around rain. Too early, too hot, and increased chances for army worms

I always wait until the first week of October in north central Texas. I’ve been burned too many times by army worms if I plant in September.

Hadn't really thought about Army worms but main thought was that if I plant next week, it could all get burned up with heat and drought. However, didn't know how fast a good stand of plants will come up so didn't want to wait too long.
Looks like first week of October it is.

I prefer to plant mid September to have oats up and ready for bow season, but you need to have good moisture and/or some good chances of rain. Right now where I'm at, we have been missing out on the rains and are bone dry. So not even considering planting yet. Army worms are not a problem for me, since I'm right there to monitor and spray if needed.

Looking like it will be the first/second week of october for me. Summer plot is mowed and will go spray this weekend. Be back in a couple of weeks to plant after that.

Late September/first week October should be good

Always difficult to keep from pulling the trigger early!

temp 99degrees in Walton yesterday and dry as a chip

I put out a bag of winter wheat and a bag of Elton rye today
I'll be busy the next 3-4 weeks so I'll take the risk

I planted crimson clover this time last year and all was fine

This is on my place in Harrison county

I always plant in October around rain. If I planted anytime in September it would fry.

We usually plant this time of year. As I speak, we are getting rain on our lease. So I might plant Wed or Thurs
