Looks like that was his first role according to IMDB. Still pretty ballsy (pun intended) for 1972. I knew he was in a bunch of stuff but I had no idea it was that many roles.

Saw an interview with him one time and he stated that he regretted that role the rest of his career. Could never live it down.

Yes he was one of the good ones imo. At least the actors from his generation didn’t get involved in politics for the most part.

RIP

Outside of Deliverance, I always remembered him playing the Dean in the Rodney Dangerfield flick Back to School. He also played Rudy's father in Rudy and as mentioned Otis in first 2 Superman movies with Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman.

I read that the "squeal like a pig" scene was not in the script. It just kinda developed while shooting the movie. I always found that the development of an unplanned famous scene to be interesting.
