With my Marion Co. tag filled and new bucks finally showing up on camera here in Gregg Co. it’s time to try and fill this tag.

I had a real solid 9 that disappeared 4 days before the season started and since then a wide 11 point that got killed the next day across the road. This past week about 8 new bucks have shown on my cell cams. A short tine 8, a 4-1/2 year old 8 whose beams nearly touch I’ve watched since he was a yearling, a cull 5 point that grew part of an antler with knots on it, a few young bucks and pretty 9 I would sling an arrow at.

Yesterday I passed the 3.5 year old one horn cull 5 pt and then during the evening hunt the 9 came in but was spooked by a big bobcat. No shot on either. My daughter was with me and I was trying to get her set up as we had just got in and weren’t even settled.

Later he came back by in the brush and I could have shot him with her .243 but I wanted her to and it was just too hard of a shot so he got a pass.

This mornings hunt was slow except for few young bucks and a doe.

We are both back in for the evening. One of us is gonna get that 9 if he slips again. Or any other buck. I usually see 15-20 bucks here during the rut. Gotta love city deer!

I’m about a mile out of town surrounded in neighborhoods and some dang good deer.

Some big deer around Longview. Saw a large 8pt out on the hill by Spring Hill HS feeding early one morning. Almost wrecked watching him so long.

We are set up behind a step bank of a oil wel reserve pit. Popup blind brushed in tight to the bank of it. I hacked an access trail down the top of pit and shoveled some dirt stairs down the steep bank to the popup door. Can slip in and out undetected.

Then strip of pines that drops off into deer creek bottom and oaks. Bedding just across the fence to my north. Facing east with good wind & light rain.

Good luck. I’m sitting in a tower between Kilgore and Henderson here in rusk county. From 3:15 to 4:15 I had 2 yearling 5 points and 2 yearling does out moving. Seems like it could go down today.

Thanks, headed in shorty.

Wasn’t much movement last night on my cell cams till after the storm. I can hunt till about 8:30 and then I have to pack up and leave. If I kill one I’m going to be pressed for time haha

You too, just trying to survive at this point.

We had 24 rigs before the slow down. There’s only 14 in the entire state of Okla. now.
It’s sad.

I have drawn a blank so far. My son on the other side of the property has seen a small buck chasing a doe (he said at warp speed), a decent 8 and another small 4 pt.

Called it quits, just seen the two bucks.
14 days till my next hunt.
Wife will keep groceries pilled up once a week for me while I monitor cell cams.

Other than a 3-4 day hunt in west Tx next days off I’ll be hunting this spot everyday I can.

I sat in Harrison Co. this morning north of Nesbitt. Nothing but slicks. Marion Co. tomorrow dependent on weather

I’m outside Harleton..... have seen three small bucks and one decent 8 came to the grunt. That’s it so far.

I grew up just outside Longview (Dangicer road area). Left 46 yrs ago and haven't been back much since. Lots'a good memories haunting the woods in that area but not much deer there back then. Most deer hunting was around L O P/Diana area.

I have really high deer numbers around my house. I’m just north east of town on the edge of the city limits. I run a scrape camera and usually see 15-20 bucks visit it during the season.
This is my 6th year hunting my property and I’ve been fortunate to take 2 bucks and a few doe with my bow & muzzleloader there. Nothing huge but I have seen some really big deer in the past.

I have 20 acres with only about 4 acres realistically huntable woods.

Seeing 115-130” deer are common every year but killing them is a challenge. I have pictures of deer in the 150” ranger and my neighbor killed on 2 years ago.

At the end of the day if I can kill a mature bucks of any size on my home place I’m happy!

I hope this bucks hangs around a few more weeks, he’s most likely 4.5 and will score about 118, I feel like the other 9 is most likely dead since I haven’t seen him since Sept 29.
He would have been closer to 130”
And there is also a chance a new stud will show up any day!

I’ll post some pics of bucks over the years I’ve had on camera and the few that have been killed.

Dadgum! That's some great bucks for Gregg County or anywhere in NE Texas...but of course, 13 of those 20 pics are nocturnal, typically.

Nevertheless that is an amazing variety of trophies on a small residential tract!

Now, where, exactly, is this, and when are you going to be gone for 14 days?
