Like me!
I was taking down a ladder stand yesterday climbed up to the top and loosen the strap and as I was climbing down the dang ladder broken in half. I fell about 7ft straight down. Hit on my heels and sprang both ankles. Luckily nothing broke but my ego. Check the condition of your stands before you get on them and dont be a dumb sumbeach like me. |

Ugh, I fell asleep in a treestand 28' in the air about ten years ago and caught myself as I was falling. Been hyperly wide-awake in every stand since.

Glad all of you are able to tell this story. An old friend of mine told me that a guy he used to work with fell out of a tree stand and drove a screw in tree step through his femoral artery trying to catch himself on the way down.

Dang, you got lucky.
Be careful moving stands as well. I had an employee that was crushed to death by a deer stand he was moving that fell on him, not long after retiring too boot. |

I was dumb and stupid a long time back. No more. I walk up the steps into the house and don't get any higher off the ground than the tractor seat.

I too am part of this club. In college and fell asleep. Even worse I had bolted a bass fishing chair to some plywood at the top of my ladder stand and it broke off when I leaned to one side. Thankfully had a nylon belt around my stomach and fell about 4 feet before it caught. Pretty sure there was a broken rib involved. Good times!

Yep it was an eye opening experience. We often get in a hurry and think we are bullet proof.
Take the time and ask for help when needed. I wish everyone safe hunting season. |

I've had ratchet straps that hold tree stand to the tree break while I was at or near the top. Those were lives I would like to have back! Thankfully the stands weren't too tall and I just rode them down and jumped mostly to safety. I've since added chains at the top of my double stand and replace the straps on the others from time to time.

Sorry to hear that! Same boat sir…. Loading a trailer….. trailer rolled as I put it on the ball and pinned my hand…. Breaking my ring finger on my left hand…. You guessed it I am left handed. Another easily avoidable incident!

Dont feel bad, your lucky.Went and grabbed mine to work on a feeder,it was stuck on something so I wasn't paying attention to the large red wasp nest under one of the rungs. That didnt last long, and quick and agile isnt one of my adjectives these days.only got stung 4 times so I qualify.

I fell out of mine one time too, except it was a ground blind and I was sitting in 1 of those cheap Walmart camo scissor chairs. But the chair cloth ripped and gave way, and I landed on a cactus. No height is safe lol!

I use a proper ladder when strapping them to the tree and always use a life line when hunting. I used to only tie off my harness after climbing the ladder but since hearing all the horror stories on here I use a lifeline. That first climb without it always makes me nervous. The older I get the more my spidey senses tingle at dangerous activities.
