What defines “best” in a Honky Tonk MrDog?
IMO, Any college town honky tonk on Thursday night.
Hurricane Harrys in College Station and the Hall of Fame (deceased) in Bryan were absolute meat markets on Thursdays during the semester. Dance floors packed and everyone is/was sweaty. City Limits was fun the time I went.
I bagged my Brood mare at the Hall during a Kevin Fowler concert.
All the old school dancers leave around 9 when the juke joint starts really jumping.
Nowadays, I judge a honky tonk by the size of the dance floor and the amount of dance floor standarounders. The bigger floor the better and the less standarounders the better, because I move far, fast and turn her alot.
Gruene Hall is almost too small.
The Broken Spoke is too small.
Copeland Dancehall is almost too small.
Billy Bobs is perfect.
Shroeder was perfect.
Gillys in Ft Worth was okay.
Granger Cotton Club is worth mention.
