When would it be considered too much to wanna hunt your buddies spots all the time. I have 2 pipeline stands and he always wants to hunt one of them. He has 4 spots of his own, but always wants a ( long shot he calls it.) I try to keep the traffic to a minimum in my areas and as they are on the back side of the lease. He has already killed one doe off my stand and shot at another one 5 times yesterday morning trying one of his long shots. My wife and i haven't killed anything yet and im just fixing to tell him they are off limits for the rest of the season. Whats yalls thoughts on this

Go hunt his.
Tell him you would rather he not hunt them anymore but no need to lose a friend over it.
I have been on my lease 30 years and in the last 10 years i have had two different guys on the lease with me ( both friends) when they sign on i tell them where my stands are and that they can hunt them anytime they want. I also tell them that past the creek is all theirs ( about 200 acres) and i probably wont hunt over there much. The current friend hunts my side fairly often. no big deal

I would just tell him straight up what you said in your OP. Listen buddy, neither my wife or I have gotten a deer yet and we both want to hunt our stands the rest of the year. Please hunt yours and stay off ours. Don't make it a big deal or sound like you're upset.
On my lease, we do the same thing. Everyone including guests can hunt where ever they want. Then after Thanksgiving, the ones who haven't gotten anything get first choice. Every day. We all offer suggestions and we all want everyone to get at least one deer.
I also agree with jaker and kruppa on the ethics. Bowhunting isn't about how long of a shot you can make, it's about getting as close as possible to make a great shot for an ethical kill.

I agree with most above OP. Its time to let him hunt his own stands. I would just say I want mine to rest after he WW3'd em. If a fella shot 5 times at my stand, it would be an automatic rest period for him. I dang sure wouldn't shoot more than twice at any person's stand not my own. Hell I'd be embarrassed to have to shoot a rifle more than once unless it involved pigs and only then would it be with permission from the blind owner.
I'm good with sharing stands with permission occasionally but we are all bow hunters on our place. The disturbance factor is low and we usually grant permission after we have taken our "trophy" for the year, so it isn't any big deal. If he wants a long shot he needs to A) shoot better and B) fire up the chainsaw and make himself one.Last edited by Smart; 11-29-2020, 09:51 AM.
