Have a friend coming in from South America for a few weeks in May and June and she's never been to Texas (only New York). Trying to come up with places to visit and things to do. We're going to Vegas for sure, but right now I'm thinking Austin and 6th street, Galveston, San Antonio Riverwalk, and a baseball game (in addition to teaching her to fish and shoot). Anybody have any other ideas? She also wants to hear some live country music, so I need to find something going on then.

I'd keep her out of Austin at all costs as that town is no longer representative of Texas culture at all.

I’d take a hard pass on 6th street. I did have a drink at the Driscoll a few months ago and enjoyed the place

Does she like all the uber touristy stuff? If so, your list would fit the bill. If she'd rather see more real life Texas, then there are tons of other options. Just depends on her tastes.

If you do Ft Worth, there is a train that runs from downtown Ft Worth to Main Street in Grapevine. Hit the wineries on Main Street, shop a little, grab a bite to eat, then jump back in the train to Ft Worth.

                        Austin....... just say, NO..........
Alamo....for sure.... But, make sure she knows it's story first....
                        She'll apperciate it much more........
Ft. Worth, stock yards for sure... Billy Bob's....
Maybe find some little town, having their annual local festival......

I’d pass on Austin. As previously mentioned it doesn’t represent the Texas I love any more.

Otherwise Fort Worth stockyards and Sundance Square is good. I’d go through Fredericksburg area and do winery tours.

As to live music I can’t believe no one has recommended Gruene Hall.

Might as well go to a Rice football game too.

FW - Go to a Ranger game, BBQ at Heims
Dallas - Dallas World Aquarium, Tex-Mex at Herrera's
                              Palo Duro Canyon
                              Lost Maples State Park
Go to San Angelo and catch rattlesnakes
                              Big possibilities...
