I have read that it takes 5 (could be 7) years for them to reach maturity and head to turn white.

I didn’t realize how big they are until we saw some up close at the zoo. They are huge birds.

                    Very cool.

Very cool pics.... They are scavenging machines!!!!!

I shot a 150 boar hog one morning before work, and shortly after getting to work my wife called to let me know that a Bald Eagle was eating on him.. I tried to explain to her that she was mistaken and that it was just a Carcara.
Well when I got home that evening I was shocked to see that there were 3 Bald Eagles eating on him. All I heard was "I told you so"... Over a 4 day period they ate the boar down to nothing but bones and very little skin. It was interesting..

We have a couple that live here at lake Bob Sandlin - saw a Blue Heron land on the same branch as the Eagle. FYI never seen a bird challenge a Heron as they get stabby!! The Heron put up a good bluff, but when the Eagle had enough he flared up and went running at the Heron who promptly bailed!!

Also, aren’t you supposed to report sightings to the GW?

                                Maybe I made that up???
