So the buck turned out to not be the pincher ten when I got a look at him. He’s a split brow 12 point that has shown up on camera but not a regular by any means. After some encouraging words in a group text, I started getting serious I may take him. I have never killed a 12 or a split brow buck so I started to get into it.
I told myself, look him over real good and decide. Karla is not coming out this weekend so I wouldn’t screw up to much for her next hunt. He stayed in front of my directional feeder and never gave me that good look or clean shot I wanted. It was a good reminder I need to spin my feeder for rifle hunting shot vs bow hunting though.
I caught a glimpse of a doe out to my left in the brush and pretty soon the buck trots off after it. A few minutes later, the doe darts across the road and I throw up the rifle. The buck does stop but not enough time for me to make the shot I wanted. So all in all, was a very good hunt. I sure Karla was here.
Here is the buck I saw tonight. The first picture is from early July.
Awesome stuff, Heath! You still holding out for a pig?
I was looking for a pig or something big. The weather this weekend looks great. Outside of that buck last followed that doe, every buck I saw spent plenty of time at the feeder.
This is a trail from one feeder to the other through the food plot.
Good example of my mature mesquites. I stay out of 80% of my place and leave it undisturbed.
I think this is the buck I passed. This was from yesterday at a different trail camera (the only one the cow didn’t have on the ground). He’s probably 4.5.
