Looks like Early Triangular. Yes that's a type. Very nicely made 9,000 year old artifact. Not sure on usual but maybe jasper. Good close pics of both sides might help me Id material. Good find.

We there was supposed to be a couple of close up pics of that point in my reply but I wasn’t able to attach them for some reason. I tried to zoom in and screen shot them, maybe that’s the problem. I’ll take some tomorrow outside. Thanks again. Last edited by Trapper76; 06-18-2022 at 11:54 PM. Reason: More info |

It has been resharpened so many times that it is hard to guess what it was. The base indicates that it is probably early archaic but still a bit of a guess. 7000yrs old give or take.

Both of those are a little hard to type from just one pic. I would need them inhand to be really confident. I suspect both fall in a poorly defined group called Early Stemmed. Roughly 8,000 yrs old.
All ES points have edge dulling/grinding on the stem edges. If those are not ground they would fall into a couple of late archaic types like Yarborough. |

You have the base of an archaic stemmed points abd a preform with a hard spot in the middle that absolutely would not flake.

Top is a really nice Angostura.
Bottom is beautiful and I presume it's a pedernales. Hard to say without scale.. beautiful material. |

Dukfvr that sure looks like a hide scraper. What does the other side look like?
On second look I do see the other side. It's about the right size for a scraper but I can see it being a preform too as the others have suggested. Any time I find a scraper I assume there's a camp nearby. Last edited by quarterback; 08-05-2022 at 03:30 PM. |

Flaking looks more jetta but stem is short. One of the reasons I asked for better pics . I gotta stick with pedernales unless better pics show something diagnostic. I do see what you are looking at though. The flaking hints it might be older.

Ok, I just saw the better pics. Looks like the base may have been damaged on both corners. They could have drooped enough for Jetta. That flaking is fancy.
