    What’s up with this buck?

I’ve watched this growth since he went to hard horn out of velvet. Started as a small lump. He doesn’t seem effected but really don’t know what is causing it or what the results will be. He’s a 4 year old and I don’t want to kill him. What is y’all’s thoughts?

Pop it with an arrow and it’s should go away.

I’ve had cattle get a lump and then it would finally rupture and drain. Then they’d be fine. Hopefully that will be his case.

We had a buck with a lump like that in his neck last year. He had crap antlers to boot. The guys wanted to take it, but from what I understand these are mostly injury related and pretty common. His drained in the off-season and this year he’s a nice big bodied 8 that should make a good shooter next year.

Let him be he should be ok

                  Sounds pretty logical.

If the buck is getting around and eating pretty good, I wouldn’t sweat it too much.

We had one like that early in the season but the limp was a little lower. It has ruptured now and is flat and is discolored from the drainage. He seems healthy though.

Looks like an abscess to me. I've had cows get them and it was normally a thorn. Will probably bust and drain eventually.

Can you imagine how relieved he will be if/when that thing pops?

It is most likely a seroma, which is a pocket that forms as a result of an injury or trauma (could be a thorn, antler tine from a fight, fence injury, etc.) and is filled with sera fluid. Basically, it is localized infection. Usually not life threatening unless a worse infection results from an eventual rupture.
