    Night hog hunting ...

Well hogs are tearing up my fields again. Right about the time I get a few deer in to frequent them during this rut season, they show up and run everything off. So the next few nights I need to clean up.
I'm thinking my setup will be close range with a kill light, would it be more advisable to stick with a rifle for surer kills or go with a shotgun and buckshot? Looks like there are a couple mommas and several little ones. Have just never done this in this manner, wondering what your input is.

    Trap is most effective

      Close range I’d go shotgun/buckshot

agreed, I've just procrastinated too long and not built one yet.

I'd go with the shotgun and wait until they're close together so you can hit more than one with one shot. Then shoot what you can when they take off.

I agree. As many 00 buck shells as you can get in a semi auto shotgun and letter rip!

I haven't had much luck finding the ones I shot with buckshot. But if getting lead into as many as possible is your goal buckshot is your answer.

12-ga 3" magnum #4 buckshot. That load has 41 .24" pellets and lays 'em down. Even a 20-ga 3" mag #3 buck does a good job.

This is from my Ruger 20-ga:

Semi auto 12 gauge with buckshot will work great at close range.

5 pounds of Tannerite on top of a T Post surrounded by lots of corn. The survivors won’t be back for a long time or so I’m told.

If it’s one or two sows and a bunch of little ones a rifle will do. Kill the mommas first then wait. Within 10-15 minutes the babies will be back. We can wipe out 20+ at once this way. The trick is you have to kill all the mommas on the first go though.

I'm in for the shotgun and buckshot and video it.
