Default Lab to good home

I took in a lab last December from a guy who was getting rid of him because he chewed up the AC unit power chords. The guy told me he came from good hunting lines but lost his papers either way it didnt matter to me i was gonna train him up and get him to a hunting family. Long story short his obedience is great he retrieves he is force fetched but he is VERY gun shy. I have shot 100 yards away and he will flinch and look away. Iv been at this for 2 or 3 months with zero luck and improvements. I have tried everything from feeding him and shooting far away, shooting while he is on the way to the retrieve, petting him, trying to make it fun. He is just gun shy therefor not making him hunt dog. I would like to just find him a good family. He is ok with kids but I'm not sure how he does in a house with them, he has always played in the yard with my kids and that was about the most of their interactions. He is a good dog just wants to be by you.

I dont want anything for him, no rehoming fee nothing like that. Thats how I got him.

His name is Cheech

I am located in Winnie TX

He has not chewed up anything at all at my house. But he works almost everyday. I think he was just bored with the previous owner

Thank you for getting back with me last night. If Cheech is still available tomorrow I would like to come and get him. I think my other dogs would love a new playmate after a little getting used to him.

Hey guys, wanted to add something that may help some other guys with a gun shy dog. If your dog loves retrieving but hates gun shots. What worked for me was i bought a .22 cal dummy launcher. It uses blanks and launches canvas dummies around 50 yards or so. My dog was “cured” after 3-4 shots.
